What does it mean when a game goes gold?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Presentation
A true storybook game, the fresco-painting cut-scenes are a perfect idea and the controls are very intuitive. Albion is a very dense world that has a rich history.

  9.0   Graphics
Beautiful environments and great details on your character. The bloom lighting is a nice touch of the fantastic and the magic looks great. Occasional framerate drops and repetitive NPC skins hurt.

  9.0   Sound
Beautiful opening score from Danny Elfman and plenty of great voice dialogue. Some of the sounds get repetitive and I wish a few of the creatures sounded a bit more varied.

  9.0   Gameplay
It\'s lost a lot of what would have made it revolutionary, but the combat is good and the game is still a lot of fun. Some of those NPC reactions are priceless. Great humor.

  10.0   Lasting Appeal
Sure, the main adventure is short for an RPG, but there\'s reason enough to play again. Plus, the world is dense with secrets and fun stuff. It\'s great to just fool around for a while.

 9.3  OVERALL:
(out of 10 / not an average)

The real-time combat system is nearly flawless, and the approach to action RPGs is truly unique. Fable makes you feel part of its world like no other game. The decision/consequence system works well, but isn’t nearly as in-depth as promised. The story isn’t very exciting and many gamers won’t have much interest in playing on after completing the quests.   9.0

The best looking RPG on any console. Expansive environments, highly detailed characters, and great use of particle and lighting effects. The NPC and enemy variation is a bit thin, but the changes in your hero make up for it. The framerate does take a hit from time to time.  9.5

The main theme is one of Elfman’s best pieces and sets the tone for the entire game. The dynamic soundtrack does a good job of setting up situations you uncover. The voice acting is top notch, though many of the characters use the same voice.  9.1

The promises of 40-50 hours of gameplay are not to be. Even gamers who take their time and complete every single quest and uncover most secrets can realistically expect a 20-25 hour game. Being that no additional quests are given after completing the story quests, this hurts the replayability. Everyone should play through the game at least twice; the experience is that good.  8.4

Fable will change how RPGs are designed and played forever. Some of the expectations may have been a bit too lofty and the game has been scaled back a bit. Still, Fable ties everything together (real-time combat, expression system, economy system, story) better than any other action RPG before it.  9.3

Overall  9.1

Some nice Videos!
Target Practice
Bandit Rescure
Fist Fighters Gang
Ransaking the Town
The Good Sanaritan
The White Balverine

What does it mean when a game goes gold?

mean that the final save from development data is sent to production.

Production dept will then produce copy of the Gold (master!)

usually takes from 14 to 30 days from gold to store
can\'t see why not!

Hey, I got the free dvd when I reserved it, and the game looks hot.  Somehow though, I have this feeling the game will dissapoint. :(

In fairness.. the reviews do admit that a LOT has been left out of the game. And not only that, but some of them are features which the developers never even thought to tell anyone that they omitted them..

Not competing against other heroes was one of the cooler sounding gimmicks that the game had going for it.

Oh, and LICky, I\'m sure you\'ve never been disappointed by a game that has gotten extremely high reviews, eh?

I\'m just disappointed that it promised us the ability to do anything, yet I\'m pretty damn sure that if I wanted to, I would NOT be able to build myself a hospital for rape victims and spend countless hours baking them cookies with my own customized mittons which if my cookies were baked well enough other hospital staff would start copying my mitten style and compete against me in the annual Rape n\' Bake off competition held in the Kurt Cobain Casualty ward whilst jumping on a pogo stick that had a vaseline encrusted dildo glued to the end of it which would penetrate and stimulate while getting me to where I want to go in style, which would likely be the Michael Bolton concert I managed to talk him into holding.

Wait, I haven\'t heard anything.  I\'m going purely on instinct.  I did pre-order it, I do expect a lot, I am excited, but when it adds up, I haven\'t found a game that truly satisfies all my needs... and I have a feeling Fable will be no exception.

GTA was the last game that I really feel I got my bang for my buck.  This does exclude sports games.

and why is that.  I can think of 100\'s of games far worse than GTA.
