I am good with only the Ryu and Ken shotos -- I suck with Akuma (Gouki), and Sean.  In 3S, I am good with Dudley, Yang, Alex, Hugo, and Chun Li.  Pretty diverse selection.  I\'d learn Makoto, but she\'s my friend\'s bitch so I stay away from her and instead practice on how to defeat her. :p

Heh. Yeah i like Akumas character but i think hes a pussy character of the shotos (his damage is a lot higher and his range of moves is a little more vast. Not to mention the Raging Demon!). I used to use Ryu but now its only ken. Never got into sean but hes interesting. And theres something special about alex and oro that i could have swore i read. maybe not.

Im playing a lot of Alpha 3 and GGX2 right now. So many wasted characters in Alpha3. I only wish they would bring back some of the non shoto people like Karin, Juni etc. Im on the quest to find 3rd strike but its just too rare. Ill either get this or get it online or something.

What they need to do is make a Capcom vs the world with all the capcom characters (2d game of course). That would be nuts. Darkstalkers, rival schools, etc etc. Id be in 7th heaven. I love SF.

Damn my friends and I were playing 3s over an hour last night (which was a lot considering one of my bud\'s brought his wife along).  We\'re all Alpha players and just never got into the latest one, but we have to say it definitely takes more skill and we were loving it.

Time to take this guide to the pooper room for some heavy reading.

Remember to learn your EX moves, your parries, your read parries, and your super cancels.  If you want any tips, don\'t hesitate to ask.

Good luck, THX. I remember when I made the transition from Alpha to SF3, it was very rewarding when I finally started parrying my friend\'s jump-ins, combos, and  Super Arts.

Speaking of parrying: The Arcade version\'s timing is much more strict than the Dreamcast\'s. So I\'m havin\' trouble parrying stuff that was total cake before. The Dual Shock 2\'s D-Pad doesn\'t help either. :(

Time to snag a new arcade stick. Any suggestions?

From everything I heard before the PS2 version came out, the DC version was harder because of the frame and data loss.  Now everyone is saying differently...

Anyways, I love the DS for fighting games.  Took countless hours in Alpha 1 to get used to it, but it\'s perfect for me now.  As for arcade stick reccomendations --

Try here at the SRK forums.  Great stick creator of MAS.
Or Try here -- yet another custom arcade stick maker.
It\'ll run you about 100 bucks after shipping.

Just post in the thread with a stick request (at least read the thread about the details of course) and the guy will custom make it for you and send you pictures of its progress of completion.  All the sticks use MAS parts and whatnot so it\'s the best stuff you can get.  Be sure to read the threads though and see the examples of the work they do.  They\'re different creators, but they are both great at what they do.

Damnit. It deleted my post! Theres a nice Arc stick at the game stop over here but its a bit pricey. And i still havent really made the transition from alpha. After watching the video ryu posted in the doom afterthoughts thread i was on a quest to find it.

I wish they had Guilty Gear XX (X2) tourny videos. Those must be nuts. Roman cancels, burst moves, etc etc. *swoon*

Nice links Ryu.  I have an original 2-year old MAS and the thing still looks AND works just like new (minus one button I smashed and replaced with another).  A very good investment if you like arcade controls for fighting games or old-school side scrollers.

I lost interest in playing with arcade sticks and now i just want to whoop some ass at our arcades so i think i might pick one up. That or just go and practice.

Man. Arcades. Talk about oldschool. Arcades have been dead/dying. I remember back when diversions (one of my favorite arcades over here) was so damn hot that it would just be packed. People crowded around machines etc. but it wasnt always so crowded where you couldnt play (though sometimes it is). We would even go in the morning it was that great.

I miss those days:(
