Alot more money here. College tuition is WAY out of hand. Cali Tech is up in the 41K a YEAR! HOLY SHIT! I\'m probably going to end up in Texas Tech unless I can suck up as many "you\'re hispanic therefore you get money" scholarships!

This is a huge problem with America. You should not get any scholarships, simply because you are hispanic and your family is illegal.

but you fail to realize that without affirmative action..hardly any minorities would be hired for any job..that is just the facts...hell if people in those positions of power weren\'t racist in the first place we wouldn\'t have no need for it...

on to the other statement made in your other post..i do feel that reagan & co should have went ahead with the star wars project..hmm..maybe it looked good on paper but the technology wasn\'t fully realized yet...

Affirmative action(in education) is based on both. It is NOT a quota system just a different method of evaluation.

Not really, it is based on race.  When used for higher education, colleges revise the admission requirement for black applicants by requiring lower GPA\'s and SAT scores.

i stated minorities not just afri. americans...i agree that racism isn\'t as bad as it was before...and i agree that a person should be hired if he/she has the skills..but sadly race plays a role when it comes to hiring a new employee...why do you think they put "fill out what race you are" on the job applications? :rolleyes:..some companies just hire minorities for all the wrong reasons...

they scan those applications to look at the qualifications then skip down to see what ethnic grp they are..then they

1--check to see if this minority is qualified to meet their quota..(you know companies have to have certain amount of minorities workin\' for them)

2--or if that person is qualified but they don\'t want to hire him because of race..say what you want, but it happens...maybe not as much as it used to. but it still happens and that\'s REALITY...

You are only half right.  Saying that is on applications so employers can screen for races they don\'t want is false.  That may happen, but it is not why it is on the application itself.  It is biproduct and good example of AA shooting itself in the foot.

The race question on employment applications came about after EO/Affirmative Action was enacted.  It is meant to fill quota\'s.  I think AA should be abolished along with that question on employment applications altogether.

Not true. I have worked in the admissions office of two different schools. Neither one had lower admission requirements for minorities.

It is pretty much a point system. Two students(one white/one minority) may have identical economic/educational/extra curricular backgrounds but the minority student would recieve extra points due to their minority status. This is the same as in-state students and athletes receiving extra points. Colleges have a long list of people who recieve extra points on their application it just so happens that race/gender/economic status are now included.

Regarding AA and college admissions:

Abigail Thernstrom, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a New York think tank, argues that "race-sensitive" is just a euphemism for unconstitutional "race- driven" admissions bias - a practice that harms deserving nonminority students who have better test scores and grades.

"That\'s a wonderful phrase," Ms. Thernstrom says. "It\'s as if it\'s just one of many factors thrown in the pot. But race is the determining factor.... That\'s called race driven, not race-sensitive."

That is but one example.

OMG man you are so blind. You really think racism doesn\'t exits? I don\'t wanna turn this into a race thread. But jeesh lets be true here. Race plays a part in just about everything in society. Maybe we are all stuck in the matrix. And the real world. The world you seem to live in. Everything is perfect. There is no racial profiling, the president is a blackman, and everyone is judge equally.
