2 part suggestion
« on: October 14, 2004, 11:54:56 AM »
Ok, I want some feedback on this idea...tell me if it makes sense.

1. Get rid of rants and raves again.  We brought it back, but it never got the same sorta attention it got in its last incarnation.  I just don\'t think it needs to be there, and I doubt many of the topics there get much attention.  Basically, it failed.

2. Make a new forum specifically for sports and related topics.  They seem to be pretty much the same as political discussion was in OT before it got its own board.  There are constantly several sports topics on the OT front page, and almost all the sticky topics are sports topics.  Wouldn\'t it make more sense to just give sports its own board?  That way different sports discussions could get their own topics more easily instead of just being lumped into a football topic, a baseball topic, etc.  Hopefully it would also stimulate the discussion of these topics like it did with political topics.  I think there is enough interest, as shown by the topics in OT for a board like this to do really well.

Any thoughts?

I tried that once before and it got shot down.  Basically your gonna be told that we don\'t have the amount of traffic to justify creating a new forum.  There\'s like 25 members who use this site regularly, so basically we have too many forums as it is.

Thus eliminating one forum before making a new one.

Having more forums doesn\'t hurt anything, even if you have a small number of posters.  That was the same stupid argument used against the suggested automotive forum.

Actually I think a new forum section will spark new threads that wouldn\'t otherwise be posted - just look at the PC and hardware forum. It would probably be the same with a sports and/or car forum.

Why not?  The more forums the more avenues for people to express their views and share information.

I vote FOR the removal of the Rants and Raves forum(which I forgot even existed until I read this thread) and FOR the addition of a sports forum.

Also let me add a rider to this proposal and suggest the removal of the suggestion forum.

Then shockwaves will be out of a job...
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
