Sorry to hear that clips... I have been down that path before, but take heart - there is a reason behind everything.  You will find a better job, though it may not be immediate.

Question - if they are outsourcing and you state you will go with just them are you leaving the country?  I have a feeling that you are confusing outsourcing with corporate merging or sub contracting.  Outsourcing is where a company moves its say Customer Service department to India and pay them $2.00 an hour as opposed to the $9.00 an hour they were paying their employees in the US.

well we just seen a videotape of our IT manager talking about our outsourcing situation...i guess you can you can say they are subcontracting our jobs to another company..thus saving them (my company) somewhere around 115 mil- 132 mil over so many yrs...no it\'s not an international shift but domestically...thing is, is that you\'re not guaranteed to have a job with the outsourcing co...

you have to interview with them and then they\'ll let you know in jan of 05 whether you\'re an employee with them...i mean it\'s actually not that bad..you get to keep your current salary and retirement plans if we go with them...i think i\'d rather just post out of my current IT dept and find another job within my company..just in another dept...ex...claims dept..or internal audit dept etc...

i really like the IT field it\'s just that it seemed this profession has grown too fast and that the technology is so efficicent now, that you don\'t need a full staff to run these massive data centers..i didn\'t mean for this to become long..but i\'ve never been in this situation before...

Our department outsourced our Tier 1 Helpdesk to Texas.

We\'re all a little shaken but it\'s one of those adapt or die situations.

We aren\'t talking about the outsourcing that Kerry and Bush discussed in the debates.  That type of outsourcing means sending American jobs to foreign countries.  What you two are talking about is sub contracting.

Outsourcing and Subcontracting are pretty much the same thing. The differ in that when you outsource you pay a company for a good or service based on your specifications and you have little to no input on how they achieve that final product. When you subcontract a job you generally own all of the material used to achieve the final product or at least you can tell the person under contract what material to use.

It is kind of like buying a sandwich verse buying bread/meat/cheese and paying someone to put it together.

We outsourced our Helpdesk to Unisys. We\'ll see how long they last. Our users = bitches on PMS. ;)
