Rare\'s Kameo pushed back

November 03, 2004 - Kameo, we hardly knew ya. Rare\'s upcoming platformer, originally scheduled for a January 2005 release, has been pushed back indefinitely. Today on Rare\'s website, the company announced it was delaying the release of Kameo: Elements of Power to make both minor and major changes to the title.

Here\'s the complete message from Rare:

Here\'s one you didn\'t see coming! After a lot of thought and discussion, Rare and Microsoft Game Studios have decided to push back the launch of Kameo: Elements of Power in order to incorporate several changes and new features (some minor, some not so minor).

We realise this is frustrating in the short term to all those of you avidly following the game\'s progress and itching to bust some Troll heads, and we can only apologise for keeping you in suspense, but rest assured that every last one of these new developments is designed to enhance and expand the overall experience. We want this to be the best game possible, so like any delays we may have instigated in the past (surely not) we have every confidence that this one will ultimately work out for the best. Stay tuned for further updates.

No future release date has been disclosed. Kameo could ship next summer, next holiday, or even in 2006. We\'ll have more on Kameo in the far future.

I know the game had to switch platforms and undergo a major overhaul in terms of graphics and gameplay, but seriously when do you just say enough is enough?

Well, hopefully we\'ll still get Conker soon...

Why o why am I not surprised ? Ow, btw I was looking forward more to the new Perfect Dark. I\'ll bet that game will be postponed until it\'s an Xbox2 game.

I believe it\'s been all but officially confirmed that PD0 will be on Xbox2, many speculating it as a launch title...

I\'ll be anticipating PD0 just as much as Halo 2.  Rare makes the best console FPS\'s, which is no easy task!

They need to get their planning straightened out though, don\'t see why they can\'t learn from mistakes and release a game on time.

I guess you can blame alot of the lost time on the transition from Gamecube to Xbox.  Having to change over mid-generation and learn a new console must have been a bitch.  You can bet there are alot of games in development.  Rare, I believe, has something like 300-400 employees divided up into teams and they\'ve commented that they will be updating all their franchises.

My guess is that they when they were working on Xbox titles they were told to start transitioning over to Xbox 2.  If Rare still has the touch it did back in the N64 days then it will guarantee a healthy lineup of AAA first party games, and that\'s exactly what Xbox 2 will need.

My most anticipated title from them will be another Banjo-Kazooie, followed by Killer Instinct, then Perfect Dark Zero.  I also wouldn\'t mind seeing another Blast Corps:)

Just an FYI,

Looked up some Rare info...not a whole lot since MS acquired them.  Anyway, there were three titles confirmed in development for Xbox as of 2002, Conker Live and Reloaded, Kameo Elements of Power, and Perfect Dark Zero.  We\'ve seen many updates for Conker and Kameo but I can\'t find much for PD0 except pictures of the new Joanna.
