Flash is the sh*ttiest of the sh*t if you don\'t do it right. If you use flash, you have to keep it cool, but keep it simple. Not so simple that it\'s bland and boring. But some slower computers can\'t handle it, especially when there\'s all kinds of crap all over the page. Just look at 1 UP\'s webpage...WAY too much stuff going on.

And don\'t ever do anything like IGN\'s front page...with their continuous links to ads with another link on top that says...go to ACTUAL article...those guys are f*cks.

It\'s my opinion and it\'s hardly stupid, and I wasn\'t speaking of the program itself, rather I was suggesting the misuse of it.  I can\'t think of a single practical use for flash on a gaming website, besides the obnoxious ad banners, that you couldn\'t use javascript for instead.

not to sure what you mean by misuse of it, but there are many different uses for flash.  For some people, its easier to design something in Flash as opposed to javascript because its  object oriented programing.  Not to mention the numerous advantages to designing in flash instead of using tables.  That is unless your using divs, but even then, you still have more freedom of design in Flash, IMHO that is...

Some people overuse it and clog the page with crap. Or it looks poorly done and loads like @ss and slows down the page considerably. There\'s many misuses of shockwave-themed webpages. Basically, if you can\'t make it NOT look like @ss, you shouldn\'t use it ;)

believe me.. there are people out there that can F up a site done with HTML just as bad as someone that makes a shitty site with flash.  You have to know what your doing, no matter what programs you use.

That\'s basically my point. I can\'t stand sh*tty pages. Like GameSpot...worst design ever...

1up is a very good example at flash gone wrong.  I also don\'t care for IGN\'s use of it either.  In the case of videogame websites I still stand by what I said earlier, flash is trash.  I could see it being implemented into the mast graphic for something simple, like gamespot, but I can\'t think of anything outside that.

Also, I\'ve made several flash heavy websites, you don\'t need to tell me how good the program is at what it does.  It\'s just more often than not I fail to see a reason to use it. /shrugs

Creative and stylish interactive Flash banner = teh win!

I love Flash, but that 1Up site is HORRIBLE lol.  I also think we should get our tech heads here to redo the original as the PS3 gets closer.  Maybe even change the domain to psx3central or ps3central, whatever.  It would be nice if we had someone that could go to E3 and CES.

The way I found this site when PS2 was coming out was through a simple Google.  I loved how everything was all setup and looked clean.  Now if people are looking for a site for the next system they may not even want to stop by.

I work at a small young internet company as their designer. I graduated from Arts academy at Animation though and later on a parttime 3D graphics course.

There\'s little room at my work for 3D unfortunately and my manager would like to see me do Flash alot more. Problem is I kinda wanna get into 3D industry really.

Somehow my lowly IQ just likes 3D apps like Cinema4D and Maya ALOT more than Flash. Somehow, that program just boggles my brainz... or maybe it\'s just my reluctancy to get to grips with it heheh.

Ontopic : I think it\'s a little too early to start a PS3 site. Most of us are pre occupied as of lately with current high end pc games and/or the spending money on the best current console games.

umm, wo DO have someone that goes every year... Eiksif er however you spell it... Doesnt he go every year and then tell us all about it?

As for the rebuilding of the site; Id love to be involved.  I\'ve been doing web design for awhile now, so I know what im doing.  I know there are a few people on here that are more than capable...  I\'ll  even buy the domain name and host it if anyone wants that.

Knotter, have you ever been to kirupa or actionscript.org?  Those could help you get to grips with it really fast.  Also, check out Swift 3D, you can incorporate 3d vector graphics for some really cool stuff.

I call console discussion mod.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

Aaron goes every year. Not Eiksirf.

I personally would love to go this year. Got a free plane ticket - so would just need a pass and I\'d pay for my hotel. Problem is finding a site that can get you a pass.
