HL2 is out/unlocked!
« Reply #15 on: November 16, 2004, 01:25:54 PM »
damn, that would suck.  I remember back in 97 when we first got AOL.  We were on dial-up but they still made us download patches and stuff all the time.  Probably 10x worse with games.

(1) Dial up.

(2) Steam does not work properly with ICS.. My only PC with an actual modem is the iMac, thereofr I had to go buy a ****ing modem to install in this PC, just so I could get STEAM to register.

**** Valve.

Instead of blaming Valve, maybe you should check the calendar and notice that it\'s not 1993 anymore.  Get yourself broadband service of some kind.

Look **** nut, don\'t you even start on me. Do you think I would be dial up if I could get broadband? If you ever bothered paying any ****ing attention, you would notice I have said time and time again, I can\'t get broadband where I live, so don\'t even ****in\' start. Infact, why bother posting in this forum? The stupid forum (OFF-TOPIC) is down the hall and to the left. It\'s better suited for you.

Second..Steam just ****ing sucks. It is not 56k friendly and it is just plain stupid. You mean, I go buy a game and then I have to register for offline mode , but WAIT, OH GOD WAIT, Valve didn\'t plan ahead and give enough bandwidth to the Steam servers, so lord ****ing forbid that I register an account...Wait...After ten mintues of waiting...countless retries, I got the update and account created! YES! Oh **** no. Now I have to register the key, but it times out and says my ticket is expired... And let\'s not forget that the clinet itself is more unstable than ****ing Charles Manson on crack.

I paid almost a hundred bucks for this bullshit kind of headaches.  All for once, I reach the great stage of unlocking I can see a screen that says..."Unlocking Half-Life 2 Game Files". Gee, thanks a ****ing lot. You\'re unlocking files I already paid for, around eight hours ago!

Quote from one of the many GAMEFAQ\'s posts regarding Steam and the problems.

his is the biggest bunch of bull%^& I have ever witnessed with a god damned video game. Not only do these morons not give you a manual and put the 5 discs in crappy paper sleeves, you cant run it without hooking up with steam, the biggest POS online service in existence. First however, you need to register it (which didnt work) and input the 500 digit security missle launch top secret code. I hope people pirate Valve into the ground, screw them all.
---

I never advoacted pirating, but I do now. I do understand what Valve was trying to do, but the whole execution was piss poor. No support for ICS. Not enough planning ahead for the servers, so a lot of people can\'t even create an aco**** and the very fact you have to create an account for offline mode is re-goddamn-liciousl.  Updating is not the problem. The problem is the hassle a lot of us have had to go through just so we can get a stupid account, so we can go back to our offline mode. Why ruin such a great launch with a troublesome service

Kill a kitten.
Make baby jesus cry.
Most of all...
Pirate HL2 and f**k Steam.

lol indeed.

If you can\'t get cable or DSL, consider a satellite provider like this one:  http://hns.getdway.com/

I wouldn\'t have mentioned it except that Ryu said you were having problems updating the installation, which suggested to me that it was a speed problem.  Apparently your main problem is with the availability of the Steam servers.  Well, I can tell you that I\'ve been playing Counter-Strike through steam for months now, and it\'s been working flawlessly.  Of course they\'re going to have load problems on the day of the release.  Maybe you should wait a few days or a week and try again.  Oh, I forgot you\'re the guy who has no patience to wait for anything.

I\'m happy to see Valve take a few precautions to protect their intellectual property and make a profit, thus ensuring their viability and future product releases.  They have spent millions of dollars on developing this game, and I don\'t like to see that kind of commitment pissed away by worthless impatient pirates.

And to think only a few weeks ago you where mocking my AOL broadband connection :p....

Haaaaa....  a Ping of 34 on just about any Conter strike server :p.

Anyway chill .. play vampires in the mean time while Valve sort this mess out. oh and from what i have read on penny-arcade the update will sit at 66% for a while and then jump to 100% complete.

just give it time bud.

Brilliant, Jackass. Brilliant. I understand now, because of Steam, anyone on 56K should not bother buying the game on release day. Infact, even cable users shouldn\'t, due to the fact Valve didn\'t plan ahead and now the servers are getting pounded. Just ****ing brilliant. Got anything else to pull out of your ass...err head..?

Oh and **** you and your sattelite. I had one when they first came out. They suck ass. The DL\'s are not all that good, you share a node with someone and the UP speed is pathetic. Sattelite internet is pathetic.

And if you would read , you would notice the problem is not with the updates. It is with the hassle of having to go thru all this, dealing with Steam servers that are hammered, because Valve didn\'t plan ahead. Having to jump thru ****ing rings of fire, after paying $80 bucks just so I can play a god damn videogame.

And if you like Steam so much, go suck off Gabe Newell and shut the f**k up.

;)

Yes I am angry. I built a PC for this game. I spent $80 bucks on this game. Now, along with thousands of others, I can\'t get it to play because of Steam and Valve\'s half-ass attempt to protect their property.

How the hell were they supposed to predict what load to expect on their servers, when they\'ve never released a game like this before?  Maybe you think they should have set up 50 servers and 400% of the needed capacity just to be on the safe side?

The bottom line is they will solve the problem fast.  That\'s the kind of company they are.  You won\'t see these kind of problems lingering on for months like you did with Blizzard when they released Diablo 2.  I just find it hilarious that you are damning them to hell because you can\'t play the game in the very first hours that it\'s available.  Jesus at least give them a couple days.  It\'s not the end of the world.

BTW chill the **** out and stop cursing me.

You\'re right! I mean, people shouldn\'t be able to pay and play for the game on release day. I don\'t know what I was thinking.

What a dumb ****ing statement.

I\'m sorry LIC, I\'ve been reading about these problems on all sorts of different HL2 message boards.

Ironically the official Steam message board has been down for 2 days now... Hmmmmmm.

Steam is bad.

On a happier note... This game is frickin fantastic!
Helloski.
