I think that you\'re confusing it with DRAM bus bandwith in the GS, but that doesn\'t have anything to do with how many floating point operations per second the PS2 can do (6.2 Gflops peak for the EE).

Anyway, we\'ll have to wait a few months for the official PS3 specs, as this is just a first gen Cell based workstation. It\'s nice to get new info, though.

CELL (SUPPOSEDLY) 16 TFLOPS (16 TRILLION)

SO... 16,000,000,000,000 / 6,200,000,000 = 2,580x the performance of PS2

Exactly...

They\'re anticipating each Cell will be capable of 300 GFlops, so if they put in 4 of them they\'ll have a teraflop machine. In theory of course. Now you can at least divide that number by 3 to have some idea of actual sustained performance, just like with the PS2 which only utilises a third of the machines power on the best looking titles according to the PA2.

Workstations tend to be about 5 - 10x the power of the unit they\'re designed for. So u can somewhat estimate what ps3 will be.....

Probably pretty damn powerful...

The max performance of one cell is said to top out at 1.2 teraflops, though many believe we won\'t see that kind of performance in the PS3, not even by half.

Guess we\'ll have to wait and see though...
