Hard Disk Drive Help!
« on: December 06, 2004, 04:07:23 AM »
Last year, I bought an HDD with 180 Gbytes.  In the bios, its correctly read as 180 Gbytes.  In the Window, it reads 127 Gbytes.  I am using Window XP Home Edition.

Do you guys know anyway I can fix this to make it read 180 Gbytes of total storage instead of 127?

I just did a quick search engine and it shows microsoft site.  But it didn\'t give me the option to download the service pack.  BTW, if I download service pack 2, do I need to download the service pack 1 too?  Which service pack will fix the storage of HDD?

SP1 fixes the storage problem.

I was using the first version of Win XP Pro, and when I got my 160GB HDD I had to get SP1 or else the HDD would be limited to 130GB.

I just did a google and found it too.  Thanks for the help btw.

First impression was the file is 128 MBytes in size.  And it took about 7 hours to finish downloading it since i uses 56k modem.

added:  still in the process of downloading it.  25% complete...

Yeah.  That\'s what I did after direct download stop at 66 Mbytes.  Funny thing is, I use Getright that you mention too.  At first when I use Firefox to view the link to download SP1, Getridght didn\'t detect it, then i copy the link to Iinternet Explorer and click on the link, it works.  Getright detect its a downloading link and it resumes like you said.

Now at 25% complete and about 8 more hours to go.  :bounce:

My cousin uses DSL, last time i came over his house, i ask him if he can burned me the SP1 to a CD, he said okay.  When I got home, it was just an icon picture of SP1 or something  like that  which doesn\'t have the SP1 information.  Not sure if I makes sense here, so I was like what the heck.  It seems like he forgot  or not wanting to help me to download SP1.  Seriously, his DSL is like 10x faster than mine 56k...

oh well, if things didn\'t work well again I guess i will pay him another visit.

sounds like he made a shortcut link rather then copied the service pack itself.

^^^

you mean my cousin?  I don\'t know what happen.  I saw him copied it using Nero6.  I should have done this sooner.  I should have get the Window Service Pack sooner.  I made several attempts already.  A few times I have called him from beginning of this year to the last time i saw him which is about 3 months ago about burning the SErvice pack 1 for me.  But he didn\'t do it until my bro took me over and he said he had the service pack 2.  he will burn it for me.  But justas it turns out.  He burnt an empty Service pack for me.
