I\'m thinking about a new MP3 player
« on: January 06, 2005, 04:02:54 PM »
This is toping my list;
http://www.jetaudio.com/products/iaudio/m3/
iaudio m3

I like the inline remote, along with recording capabilities and radio.

I\'m also pondering a myfi....  I don\'t know why though.

Any of you guys have any advice?

Looks pretty cool but I\'ll ask the obvious question; why not an iPod?

Ipod, no recording and no fm radio.  Also, everyone has an ipod.  Though I do like Ipods.

iPods don\'t decode mp3 as well as other players, and I have no interest in adopting AAC.  Also, you\'re paying more for the brand name.  That is why I would not choose an iPod.

Unsure about the mp3 part (mine plays em good) but why are people scared of AAC?  I have old mpeg-1 video files on my puter and as time went on I started getting files encoded in mpeg-4.  They work grrrreat.

And the cost issue is false.  The one he\'s looking at costs more with the same options Apple includes for $299.

That thing looks sweet.  It\'s how I imagine the iPod will be in the future.  If you really see yourself using all those features then d00d it

Ok, I\'ve narrowed it down.  The Archos is just a little gimicky for my taste, I rarely have a moment on the go where I need to watch TV, even in the gym I can just watch tv on one of the 8 TVs on the walls.  So here are my candidates;

4th gen Ipod;

Pro\'s-  Looks cool, proven brand and recognized brand name, great quality of sound and build, nice interface, pretty small at 5.6 oz

Cons-  No fm radio reciever (at the gym I can tune in to the tv\'s broadcast with an FM radio, and I also like to be able to catch some sports radio on the go), no recording capabilities (not that I would ever use it), no remote (I keep mp3 players in my pocket and like to skip songs often)

Iaudio M3;

Pros- Smaller than Ipod, cool design that has LCD remote and no LCD on chasis, sound quality is good, fm radio and remote included

Cons- Non recognized brand name (people will ask "is that an Ipod" and when you say no they assume it\'s crap)  remote with no chasis lcd might be a problem when navigating.

Iriver 320

Pros-  Color screen, intergrated fm radio, superb sound, view pix (probably never will use)

cons-  no on the fly playlist, heavy at 6.4 ounces and an inch thick, non-ipod name, possible crap navigation and ugly.

anyone have a suggestion (possibly owners of one of the 3).  I would go with something like Sammy got, but 5gb won\'t do it for me, as I never know what I might want to listen to so I need alot of music with me all the time

Rumor is the next generation iPod mini will be announced (and possibly released) in this upcoming Macworld, starting Jan 10.   For working out a mini or zen micro would be the best for things like jogging and such.

And ipods have an optional remote as an accessory.  link.  Something else to think about is that they have the best aftermarket gizmos available.  Alpine and now Pioneer are making digital adapters for your car so you can control your ipod right from your head unit.
