Hi all,
First off, let me say that I read the thread on fixing disc read errors. I\'m not sure that my problem entirely fits into that category.
After having obtained a new game (retail - Destroy all Humans), I began to play. About a short while into the game, I died and needed to reload. This is when the problems began. A noise appeared in the drive bay (kind of like a high pitched fast chirp). The game never got pass the load screen. I waited a long while and nothing. I reset the machine and the same noise is still there. This time, the dvd will not load at all. The initial welcome screen went into the browser screen. I checked the browser. The machine can detect my two memory cards just fine, but keeps saying that it\'s trying to load from the dvd drive. At this point, I tried turning the machine off (not standby) then on again. . . no help. I tried other games (both retail and backup dvds). . . still nothing. Sometimes, the machine tells me that there is a read error, other times, it just keeps trying to read, forever (don\'t know why it\'s not always disc read error).
I then cleaned the laser lens. This didn\'t help either.
I did some research. The laser has been know to break in PS2s. Does this sound like a laser issue? How can I find out if the laser is broken? Can anything else be causing this problem (i.e. drive motor problem. . .)?
I\'ve had my ps2 for about 2 years now. It\'s a version 9, modded with a Magic V chip. I\'ve never had any problems with it until this occured. I don\'t think it\'s the mod chip\'s fault. Neither my retail dvds nor my backup dvds work.
Can anyone please offer some suggestions? Anything at all.
Thanks.
