I heard a rumor from a friend that (and this is a conspiracy theory btw) the oil will run out in the Earth in 25 years and it will be the end of the world.

I had a professor, a PROFESSOR explain to us in a lecture that the current oil supply will last 40 years.  

He\'s also a hippie and smokes too much pot.

Oil, also known as "fossil fuel", isn\'t something that is easily made. Oil isn\'t amazingly far down in the crust...because oil came from prehistoric animals, not the earth. The earth just turned the animals into fossil fuel (oil). Do you think that earth makes its own oil or something? There has to be animals for this to occur. There isn\'t an unlimited supply and human beings consume a ridiculous amount of natural resources.

Fossil fuel: A hydrocarbon deposit, such as petroleum, coal, or natural gas, derived from living matter of a previous geologic time and used for fuel.

Didn\'t a group of scientists say we were going to run out of food in the 70s?  Something about overpopulation vs. the time it takes to produce crops & other goods?

Econ professor I once had thinks these apocolyptic prophecies are silly.  He said there\'ll always be oil and there\'ll always be food.
