HD Problems

My external HD is giving me problems.  When I load it up it\'s fine, but when I try and run anything or copy stuff to it, my computer stops dectecting it.  I don\'t know what to do.

I think Seagate rocks.  Maxtor and IBM have both given me problems, so you\'d be hard pressed to find one company everyone can agree on.

Seagate offers a 5yr warranty on everything they sell so look into that.

It\'s maxtor BTW... and I think its the connection.  It works fine with my USB connection, albeit a lot slower (cause its USB 1.0), but with my firewire it just dies out...

oh, I was going to asked you the other day if its may have to do with USB connection but I didn\'t because I didn\'t think it might have to do with USB.

So, that explains it.  Your computer only support USB 1.1 or something?

Hey I am curious now, say if you have two device that are USB 2 compatible, say a computer with USB 2 port and a HDD with USB 2, does it matter if whatever cable you use, you still can transfer the speed of USB 2?

Does cable matter too?  Or does it also require a USB 2 compliance cable in order to support USB 2 speed?

i bought the firewire card at CompUSA so go figure...

I figure i\'ll probably be getting a new computer soon anyway.

so, you are saying that you can use any USB cable and it can support speed of 12 Mbps or 480 Mbps just as long as the device support that speed of either 12 Mbits (USB 1.1) or 480 Mbits (USB 2).

it\'s device dependant only, not cable dependant.  If so, that\'s cool.
