PS3 will be released in teh US probably towards late fall early winter 06.  Sony should announce something in early spring I would think?

Sony is hosting the PlayStation Conference in February, I bet pricing, launch dates and release games will be announced then.

I suspect the PS3 release dates in the different regions will be much closer compared to the PS2 dates (JAP March, US October, EU November). Sony’s semiconductors production capacity is much greater now compared to the early days of the PS2. Sony has built at least one new plant, and they have deals with IBM and Toshiba to fab processors at their plants.

So I speculate the Japanese and US releases might be much closer to each other than what one would expect looking back at the PS2 release. Of course Europe gets shafted as usual so this doesn’t benefit me. UNLESS the PS3 is region free so I can import one from Canada. ;)

Btw, according to an old interview with Mr. Chatani, the PS3 will have an internal powersupply.

I\'m not sure where all these release date rumors start... but here\'s the speculation:

In spring of 2005 the Sony PS3 preview trailers ended with "lauching spring 2006".  No word on regions, or exactly what spring is.

March 2006 is a good bet for that, and most people are guessing that it will be initially a Japanese launch, but it *could* be a worldwide launch.  Assuming a simmilar timeframe to the PS2 (launched Japan march 2000, NA October 2000, Europe November 24, 2000), we will probably see the PS3 in North America and Europe before christmas.

No other definitive dates have been forthcoming from Sony or their trailers.  Sony mentioned the other day they were buying the central stand (normal) at Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in January 2006 (what\'s unusual?  The platforum will have 12,000 sq. feet - aprox 3660 square meters)....  so expect big news there.

No firm estimates for price are out there.  The amounts CNN reported last week of 300-400 US as said by Sony\'s CEO (saying they would sell it at a loss if necessary to ensure Blu-ray market penetration) turned out to be a false rumor, but guesses are that they will aim for the same price point as the XboX, even if it is a loss at that price.

I like the internal power supply strategy, its a hassle to set up with too many peripherals if you keep travelling with your system .
Compact is the word.

I disagree.

I\'d rather Sony take their time, and add the pieces to the console that truly make it a 2nd to none next gen console. Having a new console to purchase every 2 1/2 - 3 years is better then having 2 consoles launched a year apart with similiar specs. IMO that\'s a waste.

If Sony waits till 2007 they can have a tremendous amounts of AAA launch title ready, and have more then enough hardware to meet demand. Not to mention the upgrades and stability they can design into the PS3 in the extra time. Meanwhile from now until 2007 games like Halo 2 and Eleder Scrolls among others will have Xbox 360 in its prime.

But of course that won\'t happen, becuase that would be to conveinient for gamers.

And right there is the safest of all bets. Sony will release the PS3 around thanksgiving, in time for the holiday shoppin\' spree. They will not miss the \'06 holiday season.

^^^

Makes the most sense.

And also explains why gamers had to suffer through an under-supplied 360 launch. Microsoft scurried to make holiday sales.

CoH is broken. Has been since shortly after launch and CoV is a cheap attempt to bring some people back.

Poll taken over at joysiq - surprising results, with the revolution hopefulls beating out PS3 hopefulls.  Of those who responded, a full 33% own a 360, and of those a FULL 23% have a major technical problem, ie overheating, DOA, scratched disks.  (1518 total, 355 bad).
