half states a firm price, no bidding, no sniping, no shills, etc...  items are also pre-arranged according to quality

... A good deal is a good deal, If you know what the value of what you are bidding on, and you kow what a good deal is then what does that matter.

If other people squeeze you out, and it doesn\'t cost ya a dime then you can be dissapointed, but it\'s not like you lost money. I\'ve always made out on ebay. Shop there quite alot, and I always save cash.

Bottom line if you are dumb enough to over bid something without kowing its value you deserve to get burned.

I did bid up my auction, to protect myself,  but $138 for all the PS2 I was selling was a GREAT DEAL, and nobody could go into Gamestop and buy all the stuff I was selling used for the price the winner paid.

I guess money isn\'t really a concern to ddaryl when he try to sell all his ps2 stuffs.  He just want to get rid all of his ps2 stuffs, and i guess why not just sell it on ebay and  make some little cash.  which is better than threw it away or give it away to his relative or neighbor\'s for free.

Not necessarily better than giving it to a friend or relative, but usually more profitable.

profitable?  I am not sure about that since the money he spent on buying the ps2 console alone is worth more than how much money he sell not only his ps2 console, but all of his ps2 games, and accessories.

Which combine together when he first bought should cost more than $1,000.

But he only made $69 on them, and it seems like he also made some profits on the shipping too.  Not sure how is that possible since Ddarly have to spend that shipping money on the mail delivery building or whatever that is call...i don\'t know...

but again, not profitable.

Yeah shipping was $24 and expenses we\'re about $10 in ebay, and paypal fees. I figured I made $105 or so bucks, which like I said before is better then giving it to Gamestop and allowing them to profit IMO.

Gaming is an expensive hobby to keep up with. My new HDTV TV, new surround receiver and XBox 360 put me back over $4000. So scraping some cash together from stuff I no I will never use again is the only thing to do IMO.

In hindsight... yeah I probably have  at least a $1000 invested in everything I sold, but I easily got $1000 worth of entertainment out of that money spent and made a $100 back.

the guy who bought it paid $138, This guy can easily make most of that $138 back when he\'s ready to resell. The winner got a great deal IMO

I wouldn\'t have bid simply cause of the shipping.  A lot of people get turned off of auctions when they see some \'uber deal\' but the shipping is clearly way over the actual cost.

As to your justification of \'protecting yourself\' you are just defining the reason shill bidding is not allowed.  You take a risk when you start an auction at 1c no reserve.  If you want to protect yourself, put in a reserve price, or start the auction higher.

Sheesh.

yeah, lets just hope the buyer didn\'t resell his stuffs to gamestop.  J/K.  I know what you mean, it doesn\'t really matter, since he still might makes more profit reselling it because he bought it cheap.

And the end result would be different how?

I don\'t see why you whine such about it. Either you get a good deal or you don\'t. Tough luck.

gamestop wouldn\'t give you have of what he got for it on ebay.  If that guy who won the auction were to sell each individual piece seperate (on ebay) he\'d probably make a good 30% more on it total.

Shill bidding screws over the idea of a \'great deal\' which was the thing that made ebay so attractive/successful.

Someone who uses shill bidders in effect, has a reserve price that isn\'t stated on thier auctions.  So if you are bidding and winning, and going to get a good deal they yoink it at the last second.. and they can keep doing that until they get the price they want.  So it screws all the folks who should have won the item when it was cheaper, and scews ebay out of the reserve fee (which they will use as justification when they want to raise fees for everyone else).

Article 1
Quote
The use of shill bids in on-line auctions illegally drives up prices and defrauds consumers...
In another civil case, Richard Eggleston, Darryl Lien, and David Printy, together with a related corporation, Daryl Lien, Inc., agreed to pay more than $28,000 in penalties and restitution for their shill bidding practices.

Article two - Shill bidding as it screws sellers
Quote
Shill bidding deal is a 21st century version of a confidence game. The purpose of shill bidding is to buy merchandise at an artificially low price which can then be resold for a healthy profit. It involves either two different buyers or one buyer who possesses two different eBay IDs.

Ebay\'s Policy
Quote
Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
    * Listing cancellation
    * Limits on account privileges
    * Account suspension
    * Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
    * Loss of PowerSeller status
    * Referral to Law Enforcement

Article 3
Quote
This technique is known as shill bidding and is against eBay rules - indeed it is classed as fraud.

If you are found to be doing this it is very probable that your eBay account will be suspended....

Consequences for serious shill bidding?

Article 4

Quote
shill bidding is one of the most frowned-upon practices in the auction world, both real and online

Definition of Shill (fraud)
Quote
Shilling is an even larger problem in online auctions, where any user with multiple accounts (and IP addresses) can shill without aid of participants. Many online auction sites employ sophisticated (and usually secret) methods to detect collusion, and a number of people have been sent to jail for online auction fraud in the past decade.

Simply put, look at my occupation, perhaps you will \'understand\' my viewpoint, but shill bidding is fraud.  Fraud is fraud, whether it\'s for 15 dollars or 500 dollars, and people who are stealing 500 started somewhere.  Currently I\'m doing online work, although not related to fraud, and one thing I\'ve come to realize is how much people do things online they would never try in real life.  Would you risk showing up at an auction house and shill bidding with your girlfriend?  For some reason the fact that they don\'t physically have to be there to break the law online seems to make it just that much easier.

LOL!

I do what\'s best for me the way I choose to do it. I also raise my middle finger to those who dis-approve... I DON\'T CARE.

All of those shill bidding quiotes you posted are only greasing ebay\'s bottom line, and it\'s my bottom line I care about not ebay\'s

If I was a business with a bunch to lose I wouldn\'t do it, but in this case I do what I do.

The FACT IS with shipping being  high the deal was still great, and I saved considerable money on ebay fee\'s, which I gleefully enjoy doing since they add cost to me when it comes to "reserve price" and "buy it now" auctions. There are too many ebay fee\'s and they are too expensive and I have no problem skimming them when I can because they are the ones that continually overcharge. However the price of my auction increased and ebay made more because of this.

Sheesh
