You get absolutely zero benefit from putting 91 in a motor designed for 87.

It burns no cleaner.

It makes your motor run no more better.

It\'s just a fuel that has a higher combustion temperature than 87 so that high compression engines don\'t detonate too early.

You are wasting money.

Unless of course your motor is high compression and designed for 91....

I drive a 1985 Buick that was designed for 87 octane but I use nothing but expensive aftermarket 110 octane fuel booster in my tank.  Say what you will but I like to know my car is going its fastest

Re: Premium

I always thought it burned a little cleaner, resulting in less gunk building up around the piston rings and stuff, extending the life of the motor (if you plan on driving it for well beyond 100k).

Yea? No?

nope..  doesn\'t do a thing.  It just has a higher flash point which you don\'t need if your car has a low compression engine.

are you sure about that vid?....not sayin\' you\'re wrong but that has almost been the case when it came to premium gas, that it cleans your engine...and to be honest, i\'ve experienced somewhat of a performance drop when i\'ve used regular as opposed to premium,...this was when i used to have my maxima, and as recently as filling up with regular with the lex*the acceleration just wasn\'t as strong*...i won\'t mention the metro tho, as no matter what you put in that thing, you won\'t feel the difference...

LPG, Burns hotter, Cleaner, cheaper and if it\'s on a straight system, not dual fuel..  More power!!

premium is overrated.

that\'s a good read..soully..i still kinda stand buy the support for premuim tho..only because me personally i\'ve experinced a performance difference,..i rarely read car manuals,..but the one that came with the lex states only to use an octane of 93 and up,...i can\'t really remember what it stated for my maxima...i know for a fact that there was this one time where i\'ve used exxon regular in the maxima and almost after dropping it in the tank, the engine started knocking,,,and from that point on, i\'ve never used regular again, until just recently and only on a few occasions.

i may use regular or mid -grade on the metro, but after usin\' regular on the lex and feeling the difference,..regardless of how high gas prices go, it\'s only going to use premium...i\'ll just have to drive the metro more as that thing gets close to 40 mpg...
