I\'m the same with the Mario games. It just doesn\'t feel like a game that should be 3D. The old scroll screen games seem that they should only stay that way. I dunno.
I thought the first 3D Mario was awesome, but it\'s been a little eh ever since then.

Well it was the first proper free roaming platform game. There were some very lazy efforts on the PSX before it like Cheezy(I think thats what it was called for real) and it was a total crap.

Wasnt Mario64 3 years in development before release? Quite an achievement. Although I must say the camera and the analog stick were a pain in the ass for me.

Since after a succesful game like Mario64 everyone starts copying and improving on that game\'s ideas I think its hard to see a platform game having the impact Mario64 had back in summer 1996 now.

And usually a pioneer game has many problems on top of the great new features since its was the first to ever implement them.

Mario64 was like a revolution. Now all we can get is an evolution unless someone finds a brilliant idea no one has ever thought of. Something which is very hard. Lets see what the Wii will do

I am positive Sonic can make an impact of some sort if its done proberly in the platform genre. It can probably be the first platform game to offer unmatched speed and platforming action never seen before in other platform games(not counting the previous 3D Sonic games). But only if done proberly.
I am sure if Sega put all the talent and effort in a Sonic game and spent a couple of years or 3 they would have done wonders with it.

But they dont set high standards or high goals for their games anymore, unlike in the past.

The appropriate controls I think can make Sonic a very cool, enjoyable platform game I would like to call the Devil May Cry of the Platform genre :D (I have a few ideas in my mind)

You mean Sunshine? The only 3d mario released since then?
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

Unlike Sonic, I think Mario has some legs in 3D, but they kind of lost their way with Sunshine, in my opinion.

The retro areas were a nice touch, but oddly placed. And the water gimmick didn\'t do much for me. It was fun enough, but it didn\'t feel like Mario.

Maybe the collecting is passe. They should look at the formula used for Conker\'s Bad Fur Day and make a linear platformer that doesn\'t require mind-numbing collecting. Split it up into levels of some sort and you might have something.

With the weird Wii controls, the next Mario game will be hit or miss. Who knows what they\'ll try to put over the new controller...

That should be interesting. Since nostalgic gamers feel dissapointed about Mario or Sonic not feeling the same in 3D it would be interesting to see how they will feel when they get their hands on a Mario that plays unlike, not just a 2D Mario, but unlike anything.
I think if Nintendo makes it a great game it will be loved as a unique platform game. Not as a next gen Mario that will satisfy their nostalgia. They will still miss the old Mario. Despite that I dont thing they will be dissapointed if its a great game. It will just be a unique great new Mario game.

Sunshine sucked - I took off work for that game and was so dissapointed. I think it would of been decent if not for that water nonsense.

Sonic Adventure was actually great, I remember it being the showcase title for the Dreamcast and you could feel the speed when you ran over the bridge and the whale destroyed it. Awesome game.

Agreed. I don\'t know what the point of the water thing was. Definitely could\'ve lived without that.

Yeah. I hope the "feel" of this new Sonic game is like the original on Dreamcast. All the others have suffered since then. And Sonic Heroes...I won\'t even get into that. *shrugs*
