No 1080p PS3 games anytime soon

either 720p or 1080p are consider high def.  If framerates are a problem, I wouldn\'t mind 720p instead of 1080p.  Or maybe more flexible and output 1080i for some hdtv that have 1080i as its maximum output...

Don\'t forget there are a few select games that run at 1080p like Gran Turismo HD....and slowly but surely we will see more games in 1080p in the future.

Are they still aiming for 1080p?  I believe it\'s in that article that it sites a couple of developers who were previously aiming for 1080p have reconsidered and are now going for 720p.  

I\'m not sure how much weight to throw behind this claim.  It is Sony afterall.

They\'ve made many claims that just don\'t turn out to be true.  Some I remember:

There will not a HDD in the PS3

There will not be two skus

The price will not be over [insert amount here, it was equivalent to what the PS2 launched at in Japan]

Killzone was gameplay (Jack Trenton said it).  The developers themselves later confessed it was only a representation of what they would like to achieve (read: not gameplay)

I can make the PS3 anytime I want.  Aparently that\'s not the case as it was delayed from Spring of \'06 to November.

There\'s obviously a communication problem from within Sony.  I wouldn\'t be surprised if the article cited in this thread came down to miscommunication, or poor understanding.

PS3 lost many exclusives like GTA (when wss it an exclusive) and Assasin\'s creed (How did it lose it when it never had it)
The cheaper PS3 wont support wireless controllers
PS3 has half the performance of 360
PS3 will be sold at $800-900
Developers find the PS3 extremely hard to develop (its only slightly harder than 360)
Sony stole Nintendo\'s idea
PS3 loses japanese support and moe over to support the 360

Who cares anyway. Most people have SDTVs. They can\'t do 1080p anyway. A lot of the audience for PS3 is high school and college kids. Do you think they have the money for an HDTV? Believe me, I want one so bad but I can\'t afford it. I have a shitty TV in my apartment that my roommate brought that I don\'t think even does 720p. I say its gameplay, not resolution it does that makes the game. It could be fucking 8-bit but if its good and fun, I don\'t give two shits.

I wasn\'t discussing the merits of said claims, only pointing out that they were in fact stated and later revoked or proved to be inaccurate.  The point was that this latest bit of information could be just as inaccurate.

I agree with you.  It\'s only that Sony made some remarks about 720p and 1080i gaming, aimed at Microsoft and the 360, claiming that 1080p was true HD.  It was just one of the points made when the remark of "Xbox 1.5" came out of Sony\'s mouth.  Seeing as how they\'re having difficulties, I wonder what their stance is now?

I just find all the backlash hugely entertaining.  Sony has basically tried to one up Microsoft in every instance of gaming press, and while the smoke and mirrors may have worked for a little while it\'s all coming back to bite them in the ass.  One of the 1up editors said it best, something along the lines of "it would be in Sony\'s best interest if they would just shut the fuck up."

Ok then if its not about Sony lying. Thats generally change on plans since PS3 is a highly risky investment. And many of these changes have been good decisions such as the inclusion of HDD and on both SKUs. Unexpected technicalities change some original plans

But my point is still the same. People like me will be content with playing it on SDTV whereas people could still exploit the PS3\'s potential even with 720p. 720p I bet still looks pretty fucking good on an HDTV.
