I noticed about a week ago that I had a cobweb inside my 56" LCD. On a bright image, I could see there was a cobweb inside, fluttering about, and it stretched for about half the diagonal of the screen, starting in the top left.
I had seen the guy replace the light bulb and new it was easily accessible so I pulled that off the side hoping the dust was there. It wasn\'t.
A few days later I decided to feel around and find the vents and try just shooting some air in.
When I located one on the side, I moved my equipment rack and saw there was a screw and I could take off the vent panel.
I did this, with the tv on at the time, and what I learned was pretty cool.
The light shoots the image into the center, bottom of the tv where mirrors shine it upward through a glass dome. This little bubble had cobwebs over it so that was my target.
But the cool thing was how the picture shone up on the back lid of the tv. I could see the tv show on the back, inside of the set. That was a mirror and threw the image onto the front screen. I could see it in reverse image on the inside of the screen. From outside the set, the picture shines through the right way.
It was pretty cool and the first time I realized how the tv works. I was surprised to find that the inside of the set was empty. No circuits, no nothing. Just light bouncing from mirror to mirror.
And when it was all over, I got rid of the cob web.
