i have mates that are black. They couldn\'t care less for the nigger term. Although i don\'t say it to them unless they say something about me being white first. (in joking fashion)   I was just referring to the vid Thx posted, but whatever.

It\'s irrelevant that you have black friends. That does not justify the use of that term.

i think it depends on how it was used.  usually, a person of a different race called another person of different race racial names, maybe that person is a racist.  As if that person feels he or she is better than another person of a different race.  And maybe it boost their ego by calling someone racial terms to make him or her feels superior?

Honestly, it really depends actually such as the tone it was used, how frequent it was use, and if they really mean it or they are just saying it as a harmless friendly way.  But usually, in my opinion...it was used more of a way to make them feel superior and as a way to make other feel inferior and insulted...i could be wrong though...

I didn\'t use it as a derogatory term, if people took it as that i\'m sorry. If you still don\'t like it bite me, i couldn\'t care less.  My mates don\'t give shit so why would i care what people on a forum think. I\'m over it.

and how does having black mates mean nothing. Surely if i was a racist i wouldn\'t hang out with black fellas.

Or if you weren\'t ignorant you\'d realize that the word doesn\'t just affect "people on a forum".

Soulgrind has shown the absence of racism. He said something that pisses some people off, but he\'s not a racist.

How is stringing the words "monkeys" and "niggers" together not derogatory?

It\'s a paradox. If a non-racist utters a racist word, doesn\'t that make him racist?

It\'s a zen thing. Like if a tree falls in the woods with no one around to witness it, does it make a sound?

i don\'t think soully is racist at all. it\'s just what he said wasn\'t funny at all....for the most part soully is right up with mm as far as his sarcastic humor....if he would\'ve made that comment in the hood, he would\'ve gotten his grill smashed for sayin somethin\' like that, and his black friends would\'ve gotten that ass whooped for lettin\' him say it...;)

ultimately this goes back to black folk using it....look at dave chappelle...i read in an article as to why he left his show...he stated he had a meeting with the producers of his show and they asked him questions like "why do black people call each-other the "n" word?" and how how come black folk get mad when we say it? Dave went on to explain why black folk call each-other that and so on.....long story short...Dave stated that the producers started feelin\' waaay to comfortable with the word and used it around him but in a jokingly fashion,..then they wanted him to start using the skits that "they" created letting him know when and when he cannot use the "n" word...

He went on to say that he started feelin\' like one of those black folks from back in tha day with the cane and top hat, just dancin around on a stage while the white folk were laughing at him...that is why he walked away from so much money....he felt that his producers who were all white by the way were laughing at him and not with him....you almost get the feeling that they were looking down on him after that conversation and that they never really respected him that much after that meeting....

And quite honestly maybe that is what dave needed to see how white folk perceive him when he uses it on stage,*a wake up call if you may* because of the history behind it and yet we still use it like it\'s nothing....and this has nothing to do with caring about what white folk think, it\'s about the people who fought so hard to make that word dissappear and to give us the things that we take advantage of today....

nice post clips.  didn\'t know that about chappelle.

though not his producers were the only ones to blame for his predicament, I\'d probably feel the same way he did if i was blick

I didn\'t know much about Chappelle except that he didn\'t like the way black people were being portrayed and that he wasn\'t comfortable anymore with the racial things. I really admire him for what he did and my respect for Chappelle is higher than any other comedian I know. Didn\'t know about the producers thing though. Nice post clips. His jokes about white people though I found incredibly funny. I feel if we can comfortably laugh about ourselves then the racial boundaries will be lessened and we can start seeing each other more as people and less like black, white, etc.
