Keeping in mind I\'m in Europe, I\'m somewhat ahead of the curve even if it\'s only by a week :P
But I got this for review purposes from work so, it\'s all good.
Anyways my impressions, it huge very much huge but it\'s still something I\'d make love to and not be ashamed of it. I\'d actually brag about it. However since this is a review unit I\'m not going to make sweaty man love to it.
It\'s a debug unit, looks just like the normal ones but has "TEST!!!" in huge letters below the PS3 logo. The nice thing is that it plays burnt game copies. Got Motorstorm, NBA Street and Tiger Woods straight from Sony HQ on normal bd rom disks. That was a nice surprise, a little bummed I didn\'t get the full game packaging.
The unit itself is quiet, the only noise comes from the blue ray drive but even that\'s quieter than my 1st gen PS2.... it\'s still huge though. It\'s shiny and black, but with silver bling on it and it\'s huge.
That XMB UI is nice, a little smallish on the fonts though, there should be an option for text size.
But I don\'t really plan on giving the black monolith much of a review, however I do plan on reviewing Motorstorm which is basically the only launch game I was looking forward to.Resistance FOM did peak my interest but I can\'t stand FPS games on consoles, it wrong.
The game Motorstorm that is looks great, beautiful even. Only a few times can you notice flat textures and that\'s only from a certain point of view and only when on one of the very few flat non rocky parts of the tracks. Other than that even on my lowly 480i CRT it looks stunning.
It\'s fun as hell, intense and fast. However I must say this is exactly the kind of game that makes me miss the rumble. I\'d like to get a little kick when I slam into the rocks.
I even got my old man into the game, and he doesn\'t play games... NEVER. However trucking in the dirt tickled him in spots he never knew he had.
Which then brings me into the other bad part of the game, why the flying fuck isn\'t the a 2 player mode. Single player and multiplayer only... why... why WHY? While playing against some people on the net is probly a whole lotta fun this is a game you want to play with someone. You want to rub it in his face when you beat them, you want to call someone a cheating son of a whore when he beats you.
I compared the game to Excite Truck on the Wii, which is fun when playing with someone, Motorstorm just blows it away in all other factors but.... 2 player. How did they miss that, I just do not know. I\'m not sure I want to know because no other reason than the fate of humanity itself is an acceptable reason for not including 2 player mode.
Other than that it\'s all good.
