I see it more like this:
1. Home & Little Big Planet - yes
Right on. Innovative software for the win. LBP doesn\'t do it for me, personally, but Home does. Both of these will generate interest.
2. Free Online - no
The millions of users of Xbox Live suggest that that system isn\'t overpriced. And Wii\'s got its own unique online system now that is going to expand to include multiplayer games soon, so this isn\'t really that major.
3. 50 GB games - no
Not important. High definition graphics are important, though, but the PS3 has no advantage over 360. In fact, it costs way more for the same whizz bang graphics. Not really a big bonus.
4. Casino Royale - yes
Yeah, Blu-Ray as a whole is a system seller. In fact, for HD users, it\'s the reason to buy PS3 right now.
5. HDMI - no
Not a system seller. Not different enough from component, even for people who know the difference.
6. Standard HDD - no
Not unique. All three systems and last gen\'s Xbox have this. It\'s like saying it has standard controllers so it\'ll be a success.
7. The Wii Fad Will Fade - maybe
Do you know the lottery numbers for next Wednesday, too?
8. PS3 Has a Major CPU Advantage - no
So did the Xbox. Not important. And not that "major" from what we\'ve seen so far, either.
9. PS2 still outselling 360 - no
This would be good if it meant the users were going to buy a PS3, but gamers have historically shown very little loyalty, and the people buying a bargain PS2 in 2007 are not likely to spend $600 on PS3, I would argue.
10. Something For Everyone - maybe
Right now this holds true for PS2, not PS3. But it has the potential to be true. The other systems also have something for everyone, however. It\'s going to be a matter of marketing, like always.
So, I count two reasons that the PS3 might be a success. Innovative games and Blu-Ray movies. I count two potential factors - the Wii maybe losing steam and the PS3 getting a well-rounded library like the PS2 did.
PS3 could be a great success. If not for the Wii trouncing it at the moment, we would all be looking at it as a success already.
I just wouldn\'t get so carried away on listing so many supposedly system-selling benefits. I just don\'t see it being that amazing.
