Mattel recalls massive amount of Toys..
« on: August 14, 2007, 07:33:43 AM »
See what happens when you try to manufactor stuff cheap and out of your country? I don\'t feel sorry for Mattel or care that they will lose billions behind this. Like i stated in that other thread, nobody wants to pay the average american worker a fair salary, so they would rather pay millions to have a factory set up in another country, and to pay those workers for cheap labor. And since this thing is thousands of miles away, guess what? quality control is out the door and you have scenarios such as these.

Before my job was outsourced, i used to have a certain loyalty and dedication to my job, but ever since that happened to me and the reasons behind it, i\'m not loyal to any company, i\'ll come and perform my job tru enough but i don\'t go above and beyond like how i used to. I\'ll let my work ethic and skills speak for themselves. I guess i shouldn\'t take these things so personally, after all the bottom-line is that these companys in general are in business to make money and that\'s it....i just don\'t like the fact that the company i previously worked for seen the need to outsource us, even tho on their quarterly reports they were profiting anywhere from 290 - 400 million....

Anyway i didn\'t mean to turn this into a rant, i just don\'t like the direction that the IT field is going in or just how big business ship high payin\' jobs outta this country...

There are stores that sell seafood with the label "China Free". It\'s in regards to the fish farms in China where they have chicken coops above the fish farms, the fish eat the crap that fall into the water. THen they get all big and sickly so the farmers dump vaccines and medicine into the water to kill parasites and cure whatever ailments the fish have. Of course, they end up with chemicals. Then they ship them to the US of A.

Careful about that next tilapia you buy. 70% of the tilapia sold in the US come from China.

good luck making an economic system with no downsides. I\'m not saying there arent serious problems with the system that need to be fixed but you\'re acting like theres something perfect for millions of people and it isnt being used.

just tired of people around be bitching about capitalism and doing nothing BUT bitching. i mean around me, personally..not you

The problem is not the Chinese or the "economic system" as a whole.  The problem is inadequate regulation and accountability.

Some conservative crazies believe "the market" can do everything for itself, and no government regulation or intervention should be tolerated under any circumstance.  If enough babies die or receive brain damage from lead poisoning, then consumers will stop buying that product, and presto... the problem is solved.  Too late for the consumers who were poisoned, but hey, that\'s the chance they take buying from Wal-Mart, right?  This kind of thinking is insane.

We already have "voluntary" product recalls, and safety standards that are set by boards composed of "industry experts" and lobbyists who work for the companies that are being regulated.  We have corporate-funded elected congressmen who pass corporate-friendly laws while in office, then go to work for a lobbying firm after being ousted by their constituencies.

In industry after industry, consumer product regulation is hopelessly inadequate.  Are we surprised when something like this happens?

Well if someone wraps a piece of shit into  a cover that says "snickers" and tells me thats a chocolate bar that doesnt mean it is chocolate.

China is a form of bureaucratic capitalism controlled solely by the hands of people that make the government. It\'s communism in the surface but survives and grows through the same mechanisms of capitalism. Not that it has any other choice given the state of global trade and economy. Economic efficiency is a priority but certainly not a complete measure of prosperity and wealth.

I am not talking about simple imperfections. Imperfections are natural. The problem is that things that are being praised about the system are simultaneously the reasons of the system\'s problems and not the natural result of wrong or imperfect implementation due to complexities.

As much as I like cheaper stuff, I\'d rather buy products made in the good ol\'USA. I\'ll pretty much only eat foods grown and raised here. Too much risk buying food from China and stuff. If its made by an American company that imports from other countries, that\'s fine (depending on where). However, its also a double edged sword. Even if things are made here in the US, it doesn\'t mean that the products are made by Americans. My dad fixes lift trucks for factories and warehouses. He tells me stories about going into factories where all the labor is illegal or minimum wage immigrants at best. I really don\'t think a lot of the times it matters who makes it. Cars, I\'d rather have a good American worker that you see portrayed in movies and stuff, not Pablo, but in terms of clothes and toys, I really don\'t care I guess.

So? Nobody can prevent them from claiming whatever they want.

The point still remains the same

You make no sense.

"China is communist" = poop in snickers wrapping?

Only you could make the connection. Are all your people like you?

Im not talking about simple imperfections either. I actually am talking about the big problems that arise because of the same reasons that people praise for it. Communism has the same exact problem, and the soviet union falling apart (i know it was a lot more than communism that led to them falling apart, but their dollar turning to shit played a part), to me, shows that it\'s had worse experience.

I probably shouldnt start talking about the soviet union, since that\'s beyond an economic system, but there still hasnt been a big capitalist state that\'s fallen apart.

I\'m mainly saying that every single system\'s good will sprout bad, and taking the lesser of two evils, I dont have that big of a problem with capitalism. If there was a way to pay everyone more, to make up for prices increasing due to stopping 5 year old from making our nikes, then Im all for it,lol. I sound like an asshole since that implies a lot, but yea..ooooo well
