8800GT review

Looks like a very nice card for the money. Now we just need a better cooler.

You\'d be crazy to get one of these.  That is, if you want to run tommorw\'s games, people are already struggling with Crysis on 8800GTX and Ultra\'s (mine runs it around 30fps, with everything on medium, \'cept textures, which I run on HIGH).;

On your new super computer you only have textures on high?

I have half of the things on high and half on medium and i have a 7900GT and an athlon 64 dual 4200+. Theres a bit of stuttering in some places, so if i turn one more thing down on medium it\'d be perfect, but Ill take the bits of stuttering..it\'s weird because it happens in cutscenes and when im just walking, but its never stuttered when fighting.

@ 1024 x 768 my X1900XTX does about 35 fps with shaders & post effects on high, the rest on medium, particle effects the only one on low.

Of course... this is just DX9 mode, so the GF8800 cards are taking a bigger workload with DX10 fx.

Although I\'m not such an fps player, i really like this game. The melee gameplay with the nanosuit is pretty cool ; especially, throwing big objects.

Well consider me crazy then because I\'m getting one. There\'s no way in hell I\'m spending $600+ on a gfx card and I don\'t really care about Crysis anyway.

Well, I haven\'t tried really. I\'m working nights, woke up this afternoon about 45 mintues before work, installed the demo, tried it out. I\'ve never completed the demo.  When I get home in the mornin\', I\'ll give it a more expansive look over.

its interesting on how some of you can spend $500 or more on just a graphic card, but some of you guys can\'t seem to afford or bother to spend that amount on a ps3.  I am not sure why it isn\'t worth it for a ps3 where it have many features like hard disk drive, blu ray, etc., but its worth it for a just graphic card.

Your first mistake is assuming we can\'t afford it . In my case, I simply don\'t want a PS3, I don\'t see a compelling reason to buy one. I had a reason to spend money on a high end videocard. It all boils down to reasons, I\'ve yet to see a reason to buy the PS3. Much like I never saw a reason to buy a nice camera or camcorder, but since I\'ve had my kids, I\'ve bought a nice camera and about to buy a nice camcorder.

well, the blu ray playback is a great reason alone to get the ps3.  its the cheapest, but its load the disc the fastest than a stand-a-lone blu ray player.  it took 1 minute or longer to boot up a blu ray disc on a blu ray player, while on the ps3, its much faster.  as fast as as 10 seconds or so.

BTW Raz, in this test (http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=198950) the 8800 GT is only a few fps slower than even an Ultra in Crysis @ 1680x1050 (my screen resolution). No way I\'ll pay $3-400 more for a few fps.

Provided you give a rat\'s ass about Blu-Ray.. I have an HD DVD and while it was nice for a few moments, I then realized that high defs movies are simply not worth the money.

to each their own.  I can\'t see why High Def movies aren\'t worth it.  Then if it\'s not worth it, what\'s the point of HDTVs and watching high def source on them?  Like playing games in High Def on an HDTV makes sense.

Unless you don\'t have an hdtv yet and aren\'t planning on buying one anytime soon.  Then I can understand.

i heard walmart is selling that toshiba hd-dvd player for 200 but im still not buying into it. plus I think blu-ray is going to win, even though the whole paramount going to hd-dvd will drag it on.
