Is there any way to get DVR to CD?

I have all of planet earth on my DVR, that i kind of want to keep but dont want to buy..but it\'s also taking up a crap-load of room on my DVR.

Is there an easy way to maybe connect a DVR to the computer (i have a CD/DVD burner)? or do you need to buy something to do it?

also, if it\'s in HD, is it possible to keep it in HD? or is burning HD something else?

if its too confusing/expensive im not going to bother.

I\'m buying the hd set pretty soon, can\'t wait for it, I heard it\'s awesome...

yea it is pretty cool. the only boring one was the underwater one..i think there was another one i deleted, but the rest are really good.

The one with the leopard thats never been seen on camera was cool. And the arial view of this pack of dogs using tactics to surround their pray was amazing

Depends on the DVR, to be honest.

If it\'s not a TIVO / ReplayTV, I\'d say your best bet is a capture card and capture it as you play it from your DVR.

Yes. Still technically illegal. Copyright laws withstanding. I\'m sure there are loop holes. DVRs are legal as long as it can not be reproduced to another media. But you know how that goes.

Then again. I break these laws a lot. Who am I to argue?

I seriously think they need to update copyright laws. I find it funny its technically legal to record a movie off the TV for yourself but you can\'t download it. I can record TV with my computer and put it on a DVD but if I download the same thing but better quality and put it on a DVD, I can get in deep shit. I dunno. I personally see a lot of contradictions and loopholes in copyright laws and a group of people just need to sit down and figure something out.

Here are some options:

1) Many DVRs have an eSATA port on the back so you can add a 500GB or 1TB hard drive for more storage.

2) Torrent the episodes and convert to DVD

3) The coolest but probably the most complex method... Trick your DVR into thinking your PC is a DVHS deck and nab the native transport streams to your computer\'s hard drive.  Not really ideal unless you have an HTPC, but cool nonetheless.  http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=403695

*note: #3 only works if your content provider doesn\'t throw the copyrighted 5c flag on your recorded material.  My local Comcast provider does. :/
