A nation of whiners?

It seems that McCains economic adviser is out of touch with what is actually goin\' on with the economy...

"We have sort of become a nation of whiners. You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline," said the former Texas senator.

"You\'ve heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession."

“Thank God the economy is not as bad as you read in the newspaper every day."

For the most part this is how people see both parties in a nutshell...republican = for the rich...democrat = for the poor.....now i\'m smart enough to know that both parties can be full of it,...moreso republicans than democrats...;)....but for this guy to make that comment, just reinforces the stereotype that republicans are for the rich, because....he\'s basically sayin\' that the economy is fine....and i guess he is right,...if you\'re rich in america right now, you\'re not feeling any impact of the rising cost of gas or the failing housing market & the weak job market.....yeah this guy is in touch with the hard workin\' middle class folk.......and McCain has this guy workin\' on the economy for him?....not a good look..

Obama wants to tax the rich,..and it\'s not even to the point to where it will hurt them, he even stated that he himself will also be part of that class of folks that will be taxed...he stated that if we as people who are well off can help folks that are struggling right now, i feel that we should be doing that....it\'s the equivilant of somebody havin\' like $1000.00 & givin\' $20.00 to the middleclass,..which is not even putting a dent in the rich folks finances.

Politics is one of my weak subjects.  I remember learning U.S. Government back in high school, and man was it hard.  Most of the terminology are too confusing for me.  And there are some vocabulary that I never heard before.  I am amaze that I pass that class.  Economic is easier I think, but I failed the easier class.  How strange is that.  I think the only subject that I am strong at is Math.

Speaking of Economic, I think recession means a temporarily period where there is a decline in GDP.  On average, I think it last like 11 months or maybe a year and afterward the GDP increase, if I am not incorrect.

He\'s not saying the economy is fine. He\'s saying that people have, for the most part, dug their own financial pits and it seems generally expected that the government should fix it all and bail everyone out.

Granted, there are factors that are widespread. Oil prices go up and down $5 or more on single days, and as recently as two years ago a single such occurrence would have been rather groundbreaking. Since, at the moment, oil is the blood of modern civilization, its inflated price causes hurt all over the economic spectrum.

But there are also contributing factors for the downturn by which the individual American is culpable, and that is the credit crisis. Credit sucks. I learned that harsh lesson in my early adulthood, and I\'m no moron. I knew damn well that I didn\'t really own the stuff I bought. But when your income isn\'t thick, stumbling on a payment can trip you up, and when you have several cards, it multiplies. There are a lot of people out there who are stupid fuckers when it comes to credit. These are the people who rack up a dozen credit cards, pay loans on brand new cars, and mortgage a $750,000 McMansion both without making any effort to save a little for emergencies or even making a sound plan to ensure prompt and continuous payment, but also don\'t bother obtaining a good understanding of all the fine print laden within the devil\'s deal contracts they so blithely sign. Sure, the creditors have encouraged this with obfuscating rules and stipulations and surely they made little effort to blunt these idiots with the proper caveats, but in the end, there is very little in this country that you are forced to obtain with credit, and even those that typically do, you can be smart about it and save yourself a lot of grief.

There are a lot of people who have spent the last two decades being extremely stupid about credit, and too many of them have cried \'woe is me!\', expecting a bail-out. There are so many people who buy enormous SUVs and pickup trucks that have god damn schoolbus-grade engines designed to suck up high-test like it would be outlawed tomorrow, pissing and moaning about $4 gasoline. These people are whiners, and there are a lot of them. What right have they to whine when so much of their misery is self-induced?

Decline in GDP doesnt say much itself. Recession is usually called a negative growth of GDP that lasts for some significant period. Others may call recession a GDP that performs very much below the potential GDP.

It is still early to draw conclusions on where exactly the US economy is heading right now though IMO. But I am not optimistic

I agree that the democratic congress should a bit ashamed of themselves after talkin\' all that s**t about how s**t was going to be different,...i think the talk when they took over congress was that they were going to end the war by not givin\' bush anymore money,...but bush kinda had them in a headlock with that one,..since he was threatning to veto ANYTHING that the congress sent his way,...so it was more a case of both parties not working together to get anything done....and let\'s be honest..the democrats didn\'t sweep the republicans when they won the house,..the only won by a couple seats.

As far as what Obama has accomplished?....He\'s still fairly young for him to have accomplished anything major in his career and at this point experience doesn\'t really matter since we already have a prez with experience and we\'ve seen the turnout from the past 8 years,...there only so much 9/11 you can blame that on...for the longest time all bush ever talked about was iraq and how al quaeda(spel) was gaining strength in iraq,..and that we must stop the terrorists...

I think all we need is somebody in there with some common sense that\'s not going to let big business run washington,...seriously Obama talks a good talk and it seems that he might not take no bull from big business and special interests but if he is prez, that will remain to be seen.... but as history also tells us at some point or at some level special interest groups and big business have almost always influenced the white house...no-matter what party is in there...

As far as me wanting the black guy to win??...yeah...at this time in history i do, but if he wasn\'t the nominee i would\'ve had no problem votin\' for that white woman either...;)

And what has Bush screwed up on?  I know you are part of the "It\'s all Bush\'s Fault Crowd", but answer the question.  What has he done that has made your life so shitty?

Obama is tied to big business and special interests just like every other politician.  Look at his list of donors - it is exactly the same.  You believe everything he and his campaign says without looking at the facts.  Obama has performed a Jedi Mind Trick on you and others who actually believe the bullshit he spouts.  Same old corrupt Chicago Democrat if you ask me.

Nope, the Democrats are doing it to themselves.  The American public is all for this, but the Democrats have their heads stuck in the sand:

Bush pushes Congress to allow oil drilling

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent 1 hour, 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush prodded Congress on Friday to allow oil drilling in offshore waters and in the Alaskan wildlife refuge, citing "tough economic times" for the American people.

Bush met with his senior economic advisers at the Energy Department to discuss soaring prices for gasoline and crude oil. Bush said one answer is to increase supply in this country by tapping "the vast potential" of crude oil reserves on offshore lands and in Alaska as well as in oil shale in the western part of the United States.

With gasoline prices above $4 a gallon, Bush and his Republican allies think American\'s reluctance to drill in pristine waters and lands is diminishing and that there is an opportunity for oil companies to move into areas that have been off limits.

"And yet the Democratic leaders of Congress have consistently blocked opening up these lands for exploration," the president said. He said that technology has changed dramatically and that oil can be recovered in a way that protects the environment.

"The members of Congress, particularly the Democratic leadership, must address this issue before they go home" in August, Bush said. "They have a responsibility to explain to their constituents why we should not be drilling for more oil here in America to take the pressure off of gasoline prices."

"Crude oil prices are up and one reason crude oil prices are up is because demand is outstripping supply," the president said. "And therefore what can we do about it? That ought to be the question the United States Congress asks."

I don\'t know if prices will truly fall if we find more oil....i\'ve heard that it won\'t affect prices and then i heard that it will but we won\'t see an effect of it for ten years or some nonsense....i guess the u.s. havin\' more oil can always be a good thing, but there are so many other factors why oil is so high,..the value of the dollar i think is what is the real cuplrit here...and look what is currently happening with fannie mae & freddie mac....the gov\'t is looking to again bail out both of these firms that owe something like 5 trillion dollars.

There\'s too many factors as to why the economy is failing...the war,..the housing crisis, the price manipulation oil....

The outsourcing of american jobs for one....but people hardly talk about that anymore since it is good business practice. Lay-off american workers and let those guys in india do your work for cheap....or just sell off your business to that foreign firm for huge payout,...again resulting in american job losses,....almost every other business or bldg in major cities across america is operated or owned by a foreign entity,...bush have even stated that outsourcing is good for the country....saying that it gives other countries a chance to experience a piece of america....what a load of s**t....america is losin\' it\'s indentidy and nobody seems to care about it. Also that bit about spending over 10 billion a month in iraq,..if you think that doesn\'t affect the economy, you\'re nuts..

So yeah,....i blame him since this all happened under his watch....and i\'m not whining,..i don\'t mind busting my ass to get that better job,..but what i don\'t like is that when i do take classes to improve the aspects and salary of my career i don\'t want to hear that it\'s bein outsourced just because the said company doesn\'t want to pay me what is considered fair in the market...

And i\'m not blamin\' bush for everything....as i\'ve pointed out i\'ve also blamed the dems,...but you seem to just act like your republicans are saints...even i can admit when the dems are acting like jerks,..yet you act like the republicans can do no wrong...they were the ones who had the last what 8 years on lock?...and you can\'t blame them at all for what is goin\' on with the economy?

Oil prices are overvalued btw. It is not a result of "low supply". Bush\'s effort to push "oil drilling" hoping to improve the economy, is probably once again nothing more than a service to corporate interests.

why is it that every time we have a conversation about U.S. affairs you have to chime in with "George Bush this" and "George Bush that"? Where is it that you get so much information on George Bush\'s intentions and policy? It wouldn\'t be from the same media outlets that you claim not to trust because of their penchant for propaganda would it? Cause that just wouldn\'t make any sense. So please if cyprus has some secret news link where they get only unbiased truthful information share we would all love to have access to it.

I\'m not really sure what the deal is with the oil prices...the u.s. oil consumption has dropped by like 2.4% and yet we still see rising oil prices....so apparently even tho we\'ve cut back on oil purchasing from the middle east, there is still a rise in prices, but yet some spectators on wall st. worry about some confrontation with iran..*which we all know it is not going to happen* and all of a sudden a price for a barrel of oil goes from $131.00 to $147.00 in two days?...that is clearly bulls**t and price manipulation at it\'s grandest form.

The cause and demand argument is bulls**t too....analysts say that it\'s china and india and developing countries that are causing these rise in oil prices, yet china pays barely under $3.00 a gallon for gas while at the same time consuming the most oil?....With the way oil prices have gone up within the past six months, you\'d think that these "developing countries" were being completely built overnight...and that is clearly not the case...there\'s price manipulation of oil goin\' on,..with big investors investing large amounts of money in these stocks hoping for big swift profit so they can quickly withdraw these flipped funds so to speak.

And McCains economic adviser states that the economy is not as bad as everyone think it is?...that\'s pathetic....tell that to the freddie mac & fannie mae firms that owe over 5 trillion  for loans due to the backlash of the housing market.

Ahm...because I dont chime in with  "George Bush this" and "George Bush that" in every conversation like you claim? Because I obviously was referring to someone\'s post mentioning Bush\'s prodding the congress to expand drilling and not something I decided to bring up out of nowhere as you imply? And because it is no secret that oil prices are overvalued?

A quick search wont prove anything other than the fact that I did accuse Bush many times, but not that I "chime in with "George Bush this" and "George Bush that" every time we have a conversation about U.S. affairs"
