As of now its ranked 4th on IMDB for best all time movies. I don\'t know if it was THAT good, but it was definitely a great movie. For a comic book movie, I think it did the best job it possibly could have. But given its genre, 4th all time seems like quite the stretch.
thats impressive considering there should be 2 godfather movies up there
*edit*
i looked they are. im so smart
seeing it tomorrow, if im not crying tears of joy over how great a movie this is i\'ll be dissapointed
i am looking forward to it though cause they filmed by my house again but when they filmed here for the last movie it got about 10 seconds worth of screen time

Given it\'s genre? I\'m not quite sure I understand. Are you saying, that because a movie is based on a comic book, it can\'t achieve greatness? Or that it should not be allowed in the top ten?  Seriously, please explain this logic.

The genre or source material does not matter. A great movie is a great movie. Period.

the godfather was a great book but still just a comic book without pictures

There was 531 people at my local theater. Which is an amazing amount, considering I live in a very small town.

All I meant by that is that its much more difficult to make a comic book movie which is deep and meaningful or changes how movies are done and such. When I think of the BEST movies I think of movies that take on a difficult issue, or introduce new things into the movie industry. Don\'t get me wrong, I loved the movie, I just don\'t think it should be 4th on that list.

Yet you have no reason other than the fact that the original source material is a comic book.

And as for the IMDB list - this happens all the time. A popular movie receives a lot of votes early on, sky rockets to the top and slowly comes back down.

Not even in the same league.  Nicholson played Nicholson with make up. Honestly, that is the way he was portrayed in Burton\'s film.  This one is on a different level. He\'s crazy, he\'s funny and he is also scary. Any time he is on the screen, you want to laugh, but at the same time, he does some brutal stuff that truly puts him up there on a demented level.

If anything, Nolan and Ledger both proved you don\'t need elaborate special effects to make a villain. The makeup effects are extremely simple (it is reported Ledger actually came up with the design himself) and yet you still never see Ledger underneath the makeup. He loses himself in the role and so does the viewer.

I also have to say, that while Ledger is getting all the attention, Eckhart should most certainly be considered for best supporting actor, as he done a great job portraying Harvey Dent and his downward spiral into madness.

People who talk during movies should be taken out back and shot with boiling popcorn butter!!!!!!

I just got back from Dark Knight and some douchebag behind me kept kicking my chair. It was really annoying. I love going to theaters, just not when there are assholes there. No one talked during it though.

Heath Ledger put on one hell of a performance. I couldn\'t even tell it was him. You can tell he really put his heart and soul into that movie.

*spoiler*The only thing I didn\'t like was at the end when they left the Joker dangling on the building still alive. After Ledger died, I really think they should have had him fall to his death like in the Batman movie. It seems like they have the Jokers fate up in the air and it will be very difficult to solve in the next movie and I wonder how they will do it.*end spoiler*

You can\'t kill him. It ruins the whole "we are destined to do this forever" idea.  Not to mention it was enough that they killed Two Face.

Was Two-Face actually dead?  I thought they purposely left that ambiguous.  He fell, but he fell from a distance that Batman immediately survived from, so it\'s perfectly realistic he could have survived too.  I thought the funeral was just an attempt to cover up what he\'d become.  I wouldn\'t be surprised if they made another movie to find him in Arkham or something.

That said, I thought the movie was pretty incredible.  I don\'t know how the Joker could possibly be played better.

Saw it yesterday, going to see it again today. Nolan\'s Gotham City is perfect.

Exactly.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

Holy fucking shitballs that was an excellent fucking film. Heath Ledger\'s performance as The Joker was superb. I loved the movie, but couldn\'t help feeling depressed at the end knowing that Heath didn\'t even get to go to his own premiere. R.I.P. :(

Amazing. :)

Actually it showed him without the makeup for a brief moment when he was disguised as one of the guys firing the guns.
