they\'ve been showing the hurricane non-stop on sky news and bbc news, quite entertaining really.

what boggles me though, is not so much why people choose to live there with all the bad weather year in year out, but why are there so many ex-pat brits choosing to move out there?

on bbc news, they must have phoned at least a dozen ex-pats who had moved over there in the last few years to ask them how they are holding up.

Cerebrus, Imagine if everyone in the the world that lives in some sort of natural disaster zone were to move to areas with very little or none. There would be major overcrowding issues.

Also some great locations would never be visited.

I wasn\'t talking so much about the people that have spent their whole lives there, I\'m talking about the abundence of brits who have dug up their roots in their own country over the last year or 2, to move to this region, knowing full well what the weather system is like, and how volatile it can be at this time of year.

Same reason ppl uproot and move to California, mid america, so.fl.

I moved from Chicago to So.FL.

The worst I had to deal with was a possible blizzard every few years and 4 seasons, often in the same day! One of the safer areas in the states. I move to an area that can get rocked by a hurricane every year. Sometimes the good over shadows the bad ya know? I love the tropical weather, I just hate the illegals and bad drivers.

Plus this time of year is when I can make the most money. So yea, I pray for hurricanes!

Tampa is great because it very rarely hits us.  We get rain, but it\'s been a long long time for us to get  hit hard.  the gulf just makes it go further west and usually if it turns east it turns south of us.

May the force be with us.  Always.

TB is indeed lucky b/c if they ever get a direct hit, they will be fucked due to natural design.

well hurricane hit baton rouge pretty nicely i must say - just got my cable back today and power on friday evening although i was lucky with the power - 3-4 streets back still got nothing and prolly wont for another week or so

was a fun storm to say the least i did my typical running around like an idiot with a crappy poncho on and such flapping around - good times - also had few trees fall down and one that was over 100ft tall actually unrooted fromt he saturated ground and fell straight over but into the neighbors yard and didnt hit anything so worked out ok - other people not so lucky - so so many houses with trees on em but still wasnt as bad as it could have been.
