Bush challenges unemployment bill.
« on: November 20, 2008, 05:25:01 AM »
I know some probably don\'t care about this, but if you\'re unemployed this can impact you immensely.

http://www.yahoo.com/s/990394

"The bill before the Senate would provide seven additional weeks of coverage for those who have exhausted their unemployment benefits."

"The measure also would provide 13 more weeks of unemployment benefits, beyond the 26 weeks of regular coverage, for workers in states with at least 6 percent unemployment rates."

"Bush has threatened to veto the bill, calling it fiscally irresponsible."

^^^Whelp so much for bowing out of the presidency gracefully,....seems like bush still wants to be an ass. In today\'s unhealthy job market, folks are going to be out of work longer than usual and yet bush still feels that folks will be able to find work within 6 months......citigroup banking announced earlier this week that they are laying off over 53,000 employess worldwide....that s**t is unreal and bush thinks that this time of unemployment for americans is just business as usual? But you better support his unjust war or he\'ll veto everything under the sun....pathetic.

What a f**king idiot.... anything for the american people and we have to jump thru hoops and so much red tape just for policies that actually makes sense....damn just help people out until they\'re able to get back on their feet....it\'s a no-brainer.

No.

Republicans want to damage the country beyond repair now so they have a shot in 2012.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

Where will the money come from?

We can\'t just print it out of thin air... actually I guess we could, we do it all the time, and that\'s why our dollar keeps dropping in value.

You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt.\" - Daniel Hannan

From the same place they recieved that 750 billion or actually 850 billion....again the gov\'t wasted no time in helping out the banks...the argument was "bail them out or face untold catastrophies all over the globe"....bite the bullet and help out those tax payers from which you received a portion of your bailout money from. In todays economy nobody should have to think twice about a decision like that.

I say leave unemployment the way it is. It\'s generous enough as is. If  you have to find work as something undesirable while you wait for something else, so be it.

I actually agree with Bush. We\'ve spent way too much lately.

I mean, we jokingly said how we\'d each like a bail out personally, and that\'s essentially what this is, heh...

I was against that bill too.  I am against all bailouts period.  These companies won\'t learn anything if they get bailed out.

It\'s not my fault these companies made bad decisions, deal with it.

Thats how I feel.

Let them go under, there will be new companies to emerge and maybe others can get wealthy instead of the same handful.

Agree....  There are a lot of small companies that go out of business that account for probably more of the nations economy than these couple of big businesses.  Let\'s reward people for doing their jobs shittily.

Well this thread was actually about bush not extending unemployment benefits..not a bailout of the banks or auto industry....but to piggyback offa the bailout comment, as far as the big three is concerned,...you can\'t throw money at a situation like car manufacturing and expect it will bounce back...if they\'re making cars that people are not buying, they will only continue to build more cars that people don\'t buy, unless they do something drastic.

But part of the reason for the falloff in sales is because of people bein\' layed off...nobody is buying anything right now...but if you don\'t give them a loan, my only concern is for all  of those people that would be layed off and i think that would be devastating. It really could go either way.

The unemployment bill? In a nutshell,..the economy is in shambles and it\'s going to take people longer to find work, even college grads with their masters in a specific field are going to have a hard time...so just adjust the unemployment benefits to reflect what is happening with the economy....when things become a bit better, then it can go back to the usual six month referendum.

"Economy is in shambles"....no it isn\'t. Somalia is in shambles. Let\'s not sensationalize this. Sure the economy right now is shakey at worst but it\'s not in shambles. Jesus Christ.

I noticed the headline on the front page of the LA Times this morning was "MARKET IN PANIC."

I do think the news media is contributing to the fear.  On the other hand, I wonder how much worse it needs to get before "shambles" is an accurate assessment?

That\'s real easy to say when you still have your home and your job....when you lose both your home and job, then hit me back with your reaction.

I also agree with this....but i\'m kinda on the fence when it comes to the big 3...on the one hand i say let \'em fold, but i\'m kinda worried about the outcome and fallout afterwards, but at the same time, i don\'t feel that giving them money will rectify their dilema.

Our economy is not in shambles, our standard of living is second to none!

This is a world crisis, not just a US crisis, all economies are down.  We still have the number 1 economy in the world.  People need to start observing news beyond our borders.
