That\'s real easy to say when you still have your home and your job....when you lose both your home and job, then hit me back with your reaction.

You don\'t know "poor" like I do. Remember, I\'m from a third world country. I had friends who lived in shanties. In America, being poor still means you can have electricity and a fridge and TV. Poor in other countries like where I\'m from is NO electricity and NO running water. You need to look beyond the American borders.

Our economy is not in shambles, our standard of living is second to none!

This is a world crisis, not just a US crisis, all economies are down. We still have the number 1 economy in the world. People need to start observing news beyond our borders.

I realize that we are still the no 1 economy in the world,..why is it that when we\'re not doing so well, the rest of the world falls in line?...it\'s like a domino effect and i understand that, BUT i don\'t care about what is going on in other countries as far as their economy is concerned..i\'m concerned with the u.s. economy and going by OUR standards and not comparing it to other countries, our economy is in deep s**t.

if other countries dictate how successful we are then maybe your points are valid, but countries look to our success so they can thrive,.....these massive layoffs by various companies that we hear of everyday is indeed a cause for concern...losing your job or home in the u.s. is the equivilent of not having electricity or no water in that 3rd world country....yes it\'s possible that we may recover a bit better than some, but the effects of losing your job and home and in the cold fall and winter months and right before the holidays is devasting and depressing on any level.

So then what does it mean?

What is a shambles for the United States is different from what is a shambles for the Philippines.

Hardly...:p...regardless of what term i used to describe this economy, it\'s definitely in bad shape.

"U.S. job losses have been mounting for months. This month, the Department of Labor reported that the economy lost 240,000 jobs in October, bringing the total number of jobs shed in 2008 to nearly 1.2 million. The unemployment rate rose to 6.5 percent, a 14-year high, last month."

"Companies reporting layoffs in the past week include Citigroup, which slashed 20 percent of its work force, or 50,000 jobs, the biggest cut by a corporation in 15 years. Financial services firm Fidelity Investments announced that it will cut 1,700 jobs, and Sun Microsystems reported that it would lay off 6,000 people, or 18 percent of its work force"

^^^These type of scenarios are going to continue to weaken the economy and it is also going to further deepen the foreclosure crisis. With so many folks out of work, it\'s that much less people that are not going to be buying any products to keep the economy going....just because you or your neighbor currently may not be directly impacted by this, it really does affect us all.

Jobs are being lost around the world clips, not just the US.

I\'d like to believe that we are the sole reason other countries economies are failing, but I find that hard to believe.  Countries that have nothing to do with us are having economic downturns.
\"In the last 12 months 100,000 private sector jobs have been lost and yet you\'ve created 30,000 public sector jobs. Prime Minister, you cannot carry on forever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecidented engorgement of the unproductive bit. You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt.\" - Daniel Hannan

And they never talk about how many of them get jobs after. One would think that after 10 years, EVERYONE would be unemployed by now. News only talk about bad news.

Sure the economy is in a downturn. But it is not in SHAMBLES. Get a dictionary.

While the news do tend to exaggerate situations, there is no denying that people are losing their jobs at an unhealthy rate...and while some may find jobs elsewhere, it is taking people longer to find work...and let\'s be honest here,..people will say that they\'ll take a job a Mcdonalds, but in reality people are lookin\' jobs that are going to pay close to the salary bracket that they were just laid off from....why take a job at mcdonalds when your unemployment check will most likely be bigger than what mickey-dees will give you?... and you honestly won\'t be able to maintain your household with a salary that mcdonalds will provide. Not to mention that a franchise like mcdonalds actually had to close down some their restaurants and are not even hiring in some places...my nephew tried to get a job there not too long ago and they told him that they weren\'t hiring...you know it\'s rough anytime mcdonalds isn\'t employing people.

You\'re absolutely fixated on "shambles" aren\'t you? I already explained that if the term was too harsh, you should\'ve been able to see the overall point i was getting at....learn to comprehend a little....i didn\'t know i had to break it down further than what was already stated. In any case if you\'re not worried about the economy so be it....

I just feel the situation is a bit more grim than what is being said here....it\'s not on the level of a depression by any means, maybe a recession....but to me the overall outlook of the situation is a cause for concern, that\'s all i\'m saying.
