Uncharted 2

Yeah...i think uncharted 2 will basically be the same as first, just some small upgrades here and there and some tweaking of the visuals(no complaints there), but honestly i\'d be hard pressed to see how much more they can squeeze from uncharted on a graphical level...the first game still stands as one of the best looking games this gen.

I can get this as soon as it drops, but i won\'t....i\'ll get this along with WET as a christmas gift....until then i\'ll probably pick up batman AA, and Silent Hill Shattered memories.
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

it scored an impossible 21/20. Then, the Official PlayStation Magazine scored it a perfect 5 out of 5, followed by another perfect score - 10 out of 10 - from UK publication GamesRadar. IGN just popped up a score of 9.5 and we\'re all willing to bet that you\'re anxiously awaiting our review.

One thing that I didn\'t touch on when I was talking about combat was the AI. Those of you who played the original (and if you haven\'t, head to the store ASAP) know that Nate was up against some very smart foes. They\'d take cover, use grenades well and were generally fun to fight because of this. For better or worse, things are about the same this time around. Honestly, I didn\'t really expect an obvious improvement because they were already so good, so that\'s actually praise rather than a complaint. I will say though that the AI continues to make great use of the environment even though it\'s generally way more complicated this time around, which is great.

Now, while the opponent AI was already impressive, your companion AI is absolutely phenomenal. You\'re almost always with someone else this time around, which was something that I was a little concerned about when I had originally heard this as friendly AI almost always gets in the way. Not here, and not ever.

It really feels like they\'re with you rather than in your way, thinking for themselves and doing stuff that real people would do. If there are climbing sequences, the computer will either quickly go ahead or stay back and wait for you to pass it first. If there\'s a gunfight, it\'ll find its own cover, take care of itself and stay out of your way. The only time in the game that I thought the AI did something that I wasn\'t pleased with was once when I came to a room where two factions where fighting, we were hidden in cover and I wanted to wait the battle out. After staying quiet for about 30 seconds and playing along, Chloe popped up and joined the battle, dragging me into it as well. That\'s it. During the other ten hours of the adventure, of which a good eight-plus is spent with someone at your side, they were always complementary rather than hurtful and often actually very helpful.

It\'s impossible to talk about Uncharted 2 without mentioning its visuals. I\'ve already touched on the fantastic presentation in the cutscenes, but there are some scenes that you\'ll play in that will have your jaw on the floor. The world is packed with bits of detail that do nothing for gameplay, but do a lot to draw you into the world and make you feel like this is a real place. The texture detail is astounding, the amount of random stuff everywhere is mind boggling, the lighting is some of the best we\'ve ever seen and the overall art direction is phenomenal. And of course, let me not forget to mention the amazing animation, killer explosions and pretty much every other pixel on the screen.

The first thing I want to talk about is the graphics. Every single pixel in the game is very well detailed. There will be times where you are going to feel like it\'s a real world and you\'re out there fighting for your life. Every little bit of the game in terms of graphics, is absolutely brilliant. There\'s always going to be lots of activity on the screen, and the animations are so well done that you will have to pause the game to pick your jaw up. The cinematic\'s are out of this world, well what can I say, it\'s the best looking game out there. Period.

The next thing I want to get into is the music. For me, music plays a huge role in every single video game, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will surprise you. The music is gorgeous from beginning to end, Greg Edmonson did an outstanding job creating the music for this game, and please game developers take note: THIS IS HOW YOU\'RE SUPPOSED TO DO A SOUNDTRACK. Trust me, it\'s that good.

Gameplay in Uncharted 2 is similar to Uncharted: Drake\'s Fortune, but with certain differences, since a new stealth mode has been added to the game and you\'re going to be using it quite a lot. There will be occasions where you won\'t be seen by enemies, and you\'ll use stealth to your advantage. Talking about stealth though, it\'s really simple and intuitive so I doubt anyone will have a problem with it. You can actually avoid meaningless battles with this cool new feature. Also, Naughty Dog made fights much more fun by giving you more options on how you decide to take on your enemies. Will it be behind a wall? Up in a roof? Or you can just run and gun them Rambo style? It\'s up to you to decide. There will always be a handful of options. Climbing hasn\'t changed at all it\'s still as smooth as ever, and there wasn\'t a part in the whole game where I died because of lazy developing. Although there are few puzzles in Uncharted 2, you\'re going to spend a lot of time trying to figure out.

Another point I want to cover is the enemy AI, and oh god this will give you trouble... They will do everything they can to stop you. They\'ll use the environment the same way you do, so watch out. Your partners AI on the other hand is equally competent. Naughty Dog made sure that you will have a quality AI teammate to watch your back. Since you spend most of the game with friendly AI, I thought that the AI was goint to be lacking making me remember the times when I let the AI drive the warthog in Halo 3 leading me to my death. Fortunately for all you fans out there, the game\'s AI is impressive overall and it won\'t let you down. For the first time in a videogame, you\'re not going to scream: "Get out of the way!" since you\'re friends are going to be there to actually back you up, not to piss you off.

Quote

In closure, Uncharted 2 will be a thrilling experience and will make you cry for more once you end the single player, but the multiplayer will be there for you giving you a lot of replayability. You also won\'t find better graphics in any other console game, and god I\'ll just stop it, day one for every Playstation 3 owner.

(+) No game has ever told a story so well
(+) The best looking console game. Period.
(+) Great mix of combat, stealth, platforming, and puzzle-solving
(+) By the way, it’s got co-op and competitive multi-player too

(-) Background score feels overdone at times

The cutscenes also merit a very special mention. Often I found myself so drawn into a cutscene that I momentarily forgot that once it was over, I had to pick up the controller and play on. While the characters, script writing and dialogue delivery play a major role in achieving this, it’s also the stunning character models, impeccable body language and facial expressions, and cinematic direction that draw you in completely. It’s the set up that these cut scenes provide that makes the gameplay that follows all the more immersive, and Naughty Dog deserve the highest praise, as do the voice actors, for making Uncharted 2 one of the best told stories in gaming.

Some would say Killzone 2 is the best looking console game ever; others would say it’s Metal Gear Solid 4. While they’re both brilliant, neither holds a candle to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves purely because of the diversity in environments and sheer scale on offer here. Think back to your first reaction when you entered the Amazonian forest in Drake’s Fortune and how the lighting and textures left you speechless. Now multiply that by ten and you have Uncharted 2. From the ice caps of Tibet to the lush jungles of Borneo, the game will never cease to shock you with its graphical brilliance.

It’s unfair, really, because you can’t do justice to the beautiful and painstakingly detailed surroundings as events unfold around you. You almost never get the time to take a step back and marvel at the rich architecture, the wonderful draw distances, the lush forests and the breath-taking ice caves. There is never a drop in frame rates and no evidence of screen-tearing or texture pop-in whatsoever, and all of this is achieved without a mandatory installation or a single loading screen from start to finish. The remarkably high resolution textures, unparalleled lighting effects, fluid animations, and realistic explosions all deserve a special mention here as well. It’s almost too much to take note of and the game warrants a second play through just so you can take in the sights that you will undoubtedly miss the first time around.

I\'m with Viper when he says he prefers to avoid trailers which may have big spoiler, story telling, etc;  I stopped watching the trailers of the games I\'m going to pre-order these days.    Anyway, I posted for the ones who don\'t care about spoilers or people who are not going to buy them soon.

I\'m going to preorder Uncharted2 on Monday :)

Why do people pre-order?  I\'ve never seen a game where I can\'t just go buy it in a store.

one reason I like it is to get the crappy part of paying out of the way. Then you just walk in, grab your game, and start playing instead of thinking anything about the money.

but with best buy around I dont see any real reason to pre-order.

which is why they have the exclusive content for pretty much every game when you pre-order now

well, I preorder for 2 reasons.

first one is that it\'s cheaper to buy games online here, for example, if I wanted to buy modern warfare 2 instore, it would cost me £55. if I want to buy the game online from the same company, it would cost me between £45 & £50.

second, because it\'s preordered online, more often that not, it arrives the day before its official release, and occasionally 2 days before as the company you preorder with tries to honour their promise of delivering preorders on time by shipping a day earlier than they would with normal games.

I got tiger woods 10 2 days before its stated official release date by preodering from game.co.uk.

as well as all that, game.co.uk offer double rewards points on preorders.
Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you. I don't care where you've  been or what you plan to do. I am the resurrection and I am the light. I  couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like.

nice. thanks for the heads up

im not going to play the SP demo if they make one...i know it\'ll kick ass and i dont want to play any part for a second time on the first play through

edit: just played a match online. Was pretty damn fun but its one of those games that I can only play for a short-period of time. Wasn\'t up for another game after my last one, mainly because it\'s non-stop action but the match takes a good amount of time to get to 50 kills. The bigger maps seem like they could be really cool if the sniping isnt out of control
