My dog\'s suddenly afraid of his dog door?
« on: February 17, 2009, 07:18:43 PM »
Hes never had any problem with anxiety..even stuff like fireworks or lightning dont phase him but i came home today and he pee\'d on the rug and would not go through his dog door at all (its the only way for him to go in and out when noone\'s home). Sometimes he wont go in his crate when we clean it, so i have to push him in then hes fine..so i tried that same idea but he was not having it. also just seems tired like he went for a walk, probably from being anxious about the dog door

anyone have a pet get randomly weirded out like this?

My cat is an indoor/outdoor cat but shes also a sissy about the cold.

every winter she stays indoors at all times and then when spring comes she spends about 2 weeks working herself up to go back outside. it\'s like she terrified of the outdoors after being inside for so long.

not really a random thing, but along the same lines.

it is a little colder than usual but its a lab so they like that..if anything he hates the weather most of the time when it\'s warm.

hes also really fidgety in general..not laying still in one position very long. the only thing hes acting weird about is the door..he ate and you wouldnt think anything\'s wrong with him.

Go outside and call him out. Do not pet him if he\'s fidgety.

tried it. even tried cheese and a piece of chicken and he still wouldnt come out. he\'d look at me salivating and his ears would get all twitchy when his head got close to the door. hes definitly not afraid of the flap because he touched that no problem.

but whenever i walk in the room he acts normal and wants me to pet him, which i have. hasnt seemed weird when i do.

taking him to the vet tomorrow. i heard things changing leads to dogs acting weird but theres absolutely nothing like that. he has a bald spot on his inner leg and a spot on the top his foot that has acted up before, multiple times..so i cant think of anything physical thats bugging him more than before

I\'m not keen on dog behavior,...i do know that when dogs get older they tend to urine erratically or start a trend in un-usual behavior. So i guess the question is, how old is your dog?

Then it confirms it. There are zombies in your town. Board up your home, stock up on water, ramen noodles, porn mags and weapons. Oh, and get a black guy in your home. They always die first. They\'ll divert the hungry zombies from attacking you while they feast on his dark meat.

the dog door probably touched him in an inappropriate place but he is to afraid to tell you

Did you try jabbing him and going "tss!"?

avg. lifespan of a lab is around 12-14.  8 isn\'t exactly young.

Not old, either. At 10, yes. 8? He better not be peeing in the house. I blame the owner. :)

Medical problems and age are two different things. Especially for labs. Personally, mixed breeds are better for me.
