Nintendo to raise the price of the Wii?
« on: March 13, 2009, 10:12:59 PM »
I\'m not sure how this will affect u.s. and other countries, but i thought this article was interesting....just how much is the wii anyway?...i think the 360 is the cheapest game system now at $199.00 correct?...last i heard was that the wii was $250.00...i could be wrong tho, but i guess any increase would still have it lower than the ps3...still i would believe that the cost of any console would be drop as manufacturing costs come down. It\'s weird that they are considering a price hike.

Nintendo to raise the price of the Wii?

no idea.  that\'s strange indeed because Nintendo Wii is like a last generation console, but still cost $250.  While the xbox360 is this generation console but only cost $200 for the cheaper version.

I am wondering how much does it cost to manufacture the 360 and how much does it cost to manufacture the Wii?

If assuming the Wii cost $60 to manufacturer but sell at $250, that\'s a like over 4 times the profit there or over 400 %.  If assuming the cheaper 360 cost $190 to manufacture, but sell at $200.  That\'s a $10 profit there or only about 5 %.

That\'s just an assumption though...

Well according to the article, it looks like Nintendo is taking a hit or at least making less due to the weak Euro, so they\'re going to charge more from those stores and it\'s up to retailers if they pass the hit along to consumers.

I\'ll guess that Nintendo won\'t see a hit in sales in that region, and it\'ll end up being a strong business move for them. Turning a profit year after year has kept them in good shape for a long time now, they\'re smart in that regard.
