Rumor: New Sony Motion Control Takes Stage at E3 2009.

Quote

Everybody\'s doin\' the brand new dance, nooow. Come on baby. Do controller-motion! I know you\'ll get to like it if you give it a chance, nooow. Come on baby. Do controller-motion! The Revolution is still in progress, never forget, and Wii\'s competitors are feeling the pressure in the \'09. Rumors about Sony and Microsoft offering their own rebuttal to Nintendo\'s motion-control argument have been going on even before the 3 competitors played on the same 7th generation field. In fact, Sony\'s Sixaxis (now Dual Shock 3) was already offered as a response to Nintendo\'s game-changing controller before the PlayStation 3 was released. However, the optional integration of Sixaxis\' motion-sensing abilities to the platform, the traditional form factor of the controller along with an inability to match the breadth of Wiimote\'s motion-sensing didn\'t allow Sony\'s controller for the PS3 to make any waves on this waterfront.

But now the rumors rumble and ruminate all over again about a new definitive even Wiimote-like motion-sensing controller from Sony taking the stage a month from now at E3 2009, the 2009 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Once again, the information comes from the Sources family, Ma and Pa Source along with all the little Sources. One of the sources has seen the new controller and two others are familiar with Sony\'s plans to debut it at E3 2009 which begins on June 2nd. That source who laid sight upon the hopefully holy device saw a working prototype several months ago that matched up pretty well with a Sony patent discovered way back in January 2007. The controller according to this patent would use LEDs (light emitting diodes) and a webcam (most likely the PlayStation Eye) to track the controller\'s movements. The cam being able to read different colors of light not to mention the shape and angle of each light would make the control, in theory, much more accurate than the Wiimote. Said to be able to track velocity and precise motions even along the front-to-back Z-axis (Wiimote sometimes has problems when keeping up with signal as you push or pull it away from screen).

The reason this rumor seems to carry more weight than the many others that have mesmerized the mind the past 2 or 3 years is because Sony is said to have approached publishers and developers for software support of the device. It is expected for the controller to look like a Sony version of the Wiimote but nothing is certain until we see (or don\'t see) the results at E3 2009. If this and the PSP Go! rumor pans out, then Sony will strike wildfire on the videogaming scene in about 30 days. Of course, no comment either way from Sony.

Will they use this new controller as an integrated part of their console experience or as just as an option? Remember that Nintendo thought to use what became the Wiimote as a peripheral for the Gamecube but decided against it thinking it would be better served as the central controller in their new console. Number 9 is a 6 upside down. Maybe for Sony E3 2009 will set right what once went wrong in E3 2006. Have the audacity to hope, why don\'tcha?

step in the wrong direction

MS and sony need to avoid motion controls because theyll always just be a shitty version of the wiis controls...plus it shows theyre trying to cator more to the casual gamers which is lame. normal gamers usually say "god dammit" when a part comes up where you ahve to move the controls around

they need to focus on making psn a free version of live

Wrong move...ms & sony just need to stick to their guns. The Wii has targeted a totally different audience...an audience that most likely won\'t ever buy a console again. This is going to backfire on them.
