GOP opposition to clean energy bill
« on: June 27, 2009, 06:09:13 AM »
I\'m a little dumbfounded that Republicans have decided to make saving the planet a party-based issue. They say switching energy sources or whatever in the future will cost jobs and try to attack it like it\'s an extension of what they see as an already-failed stimulus bill, but doesn\'t trying to come up with and implement new technologies sort of assure more jobs being created?

This one\'s overdue, in my opinion. If the stimulus was controversial spending (that\'s only now getting ready to be spent), this one is a no-brainer.

It looks to benefit everyone equally regardless of political party or class... No?

If this is the same thing I heard something about last night I understand why they are doing that.

If this takes of the way some want it to, Al Gore\'s company stands to make a billion dollars. Pelosi and some other dem are also heavily invested in other ventures that will make a significant amount of money as well.

1) The government needs to stop spending money
2) People should be able to do whatever they want, if I don\'t want to use clean energy, so be it - don\'t infringe on my rights
3) Please tell me you don\'t buy into al gore\'s BS - nice guy, but he\'s just an ego maniac trying to push his agenda.  Al Gore has made a lot of money and generated a lot of fame from the hysteria he has created about global warming.

Yup, Gore was worth about 2mil when he left office, now he is around 100 mil.

He will be ballin if this gets under way. The company he owns or is heavily invested in is writing the software for that carbon footprint tracking jazz.

was good arguements, except for the "you\'ll commit genocide by being eco-friendly"...was just another scare tactic like all the other guys use. Not saying it\'s not true, but theres more to it than being eco-friendly.

I\'ll believe scientists before these dog and pony shows though (that includes al gore). and there is a connection between the industrial revolution and how much Co2 is in the air...yes CO2 is needed, but too much is just as bad as too little (Venus anyone?). So I dont buy the arguement in not wanting to "cut back our quality of life" to be more eco-friendly

you know what these shows need? both fuckin sides...

each side is just trying to push their own agenda and the only people that watch/listen are people that are already on their side and want something to watch and say "EXACTLY!" to...that does no one any good. But if I could have a guy have a debate with the guy from the...free-market think tank..whatever the fuck that is

would get a lot more done than with all this pandering bs

i couldn\'t come up with a better word than agenda, since that means more than what i mean. Basically he just wants people to hear his point of view and won\'t let people see the other side (someone other than al gore). Might get people undecided to rip the same beliefs with those kind of videos, but those are some fickle people

I haven\'t heard the full details of the bill...i dud hear that they wanted factiries and other facilities to use cleaner methods of producing energy, which in the short term may be a bit expensive due to the transistion but in the long term could end up being beneficial to the environment overall.

And quite honestly both sides have been talking about clean and green energy for years, but when when you get somebody that\'s actually taking action on it, s**t hits the fan...the republicans are just bitching because they have nothing else better to do. And i\'m not on board on all of obama\'s policies, but here i think he\'s doin\' the right thing. He wants america to be the leader in innovations...energy will still be produced in the tradional manner with electricity and coal, but spurning these new cleaner technologies will not only produce energy more cleaner and efficiently, it\'ll also create new high paying jobs.

You realize all this would do is shift money from old energy companies to green energy companies - essentially making a different group of people rich and costing you MORE money in the process.

k thx bye

Of course, this is why I\'m a conservative and believe we shouldn\'t force change upon people.  Let people live life they want to be.  Be green if you want, or don\'t... whatever makes you happy.

And the innovation idea is to try to have the U.S. be in the driver\'s seat with some of that new tech instead of say, the Middle East. Good for the economy, so SAVING more money in the process?
