thanks to GT5, my PS3 is now fucked and I can\'t play anything.

the game would freeze on the race loading screen leading me with no option but to brute force a reboot by unplugging from the mains power supply.

it did it again last night, and when I "rebooted", I got an error message telling me that my HDD was corrupted, and that it needed to be restored.

I let it do what needed to be done, then when it rebooted itself, I got the same message again.

now I have a PS3 that is totally useless, and what is even more annoying, is that unless I can bypass the restore screen, I am going to lose ALL my game saves, including GT5.

any suggestions how to get past this, or am I royally fucked?

I suggest the 3 possible solutions

1)Make a back up on an external HDD. If you have a SATA sitting unused, take out your original HDD, put the other one inside your PS3, restore your back up on that. Check if it will work and if everything you had on the other one will be restored in it. That way you will try a solution without fearing that you will lose your original data from the original HDD.

2)Another possible solution is to save your GT5 data on the USB just in case it gets deleted by accident while you are going to do the following: delete the GT5 installation, install it again, and see if it will work ok. Copy your game data back on the console in case your GT5 progress is missing.

3)I am not sure about it but is there the option to reinstall GT5 from the game menu? if yes do that and restore the game after that from the game menu (keep your progress saved on a USB just in case before you do that)

The first option I believe is the safest

Its weird that your PS3 froze on the loading screen

I wish you good luck

there was no way of making a back up, even if I had an external HDD lying around. I couldn\'t get past the loop that kept telling me it needed to be restored.

someone told me to use the recovery feature that was introduced in 2.50, but that did nothing to help either. the only thing I could do as a last resort and a final attempt at at least getting my PS3 working again, was to reset it back to its default configuration, which wiped everything.

I lost all my GT5 data, my RDR data (online and offline) and a shit load of other stuff that I had been stocking up.

pissed off to say the least, totally my own fault for not backing my shit up.

not going to happen again though, once bitten, twice shy. I\'ll be backing my saves up at least once a week now, depending on how much progress I make.

sucks big time about your HDD Cerb. Havent heard other people running into that, except I did hear with all the long Spec B races and the ones you have to do, the game\'s been making people keep their ps3\'s on for long periods of time which could be a problem

but i might get this tomorrow while its on sale at target.

Does GT5 have the rewind feature that\'s being put into racing games? (dirt, grid and forza have it). I know its considered lame to use it but I\'m more about having fun than complete realism so I dont really want to spend a bunch of time on a race just to fuck up at the end. Guess its not too big of a deal if it\'s not in the game but i\'d prefer it

I\'ve just about gotten over my loss, I\'m making good progress on GT5, but I don\'t think I\'ll ever get back to where I was on RDR. I;d prestiged all the way and had unlocked most of the gold weapons online, not sure I can be bothered doing all that again.

as for a rewind feature, I haven\'t seen anything like that, but I have to admit, if you want to do do most of the longer championships in a spec, and all the ones on b spec which are twice the length of the a spec equivalent , you are forced to keep your system on for extended periods, which is just taking the piss. there is no option whatsoever to save your progress during championship events, and considering that some of the higher ones can have approaching 10 events with 10-20 laps each, it\'s a ridiculous amount of progress without being able to save.

I think I\'d be livid if I did one of the long championship events only to suffer a system freeze, or even a power cut right in the last few laps of the last race.

as good as the game is, the more I play it, the more I am discovering corners that were cut, and for a game that was in development as long as GT5 was, that is pure unacceptable.

I think even GT3 and 4 had a mid championship save from what I  remember. Lets hope the next patch adresses this.

I only played 3 races but I can tell I\'m glad i bought the game. Even with my shitty infinity G20 \'90 im digging the races.

curious on what your guys\' opinions are on buying shit as a beginner though.

Do you recommend me buying another car asap, keep saving up till I can get a much better car from my current one, or keep upgrading my one car?

I tend to hoard and save as much money as possible, then buying a much better car..But it seems like I need to upgrade my car first then buy a new car

edit: Ah..i see I won a car. Guess another option is to upgrade my current car and just take the prize cars for a while

Also...

I just finished/won the first 3 races (the whole \'tournament\' i mean..not just 3 lone races) on the beginner level, but now all of the next races I dont have a car to participate in any of them. Do I need to buy a car for those races? or hope my a-spec guy wins some cars?

Just a stickler with spending points so I know I\'m going to buy stuff and get screwed over. Already happened when I upgraded my current car a bit just to see I needed to buy a car for one of those events but didnt have enough credits

don\'t get me worng, it\'s a great game, it\'s just full of cut corners.

yeah, past GT games did have a save feature for championship events, don\'t know why this one doesn\'t. it\'s just ridiculous.

I was hoping they would have included a save feature for endurance races as well, I mean come on, who has the time to sit in front of their PS3 for hours and hours on end????

you will be able to use some of the cars you win from other races to enter other categories.

also, do the license tests, you will unlock cars from doing those, you will get a car for getting all bronze, as well as for all silver and all gold assuming you get them.

then do a few b spec, you will get cars for that too, though that can be a bit boring.

how many b spec drivers do you guys have? I\'ve heard people having 4ish drivers up in the 30 ranks...that would take sooo damn long of just doing nothing but watching.

And it\'s not like you can just go on autopilot and let a bunch of b-spec races go unattended since you always need to click to start a race, go to the next one, etc

I\'m really not getting into this b-spec aspect of this

just the one I need to do the lower tier. dunno how many you need for the higher ones, but I can\'t be arsed getting more than 1 up to an adequate level.

One more question, lol (i admit, i\'m retarded with this game outside of the driving..i dont get the tuning, how to get better cars, whether to buy/win/buy a used car, etc, etc. Even the driving i\'d probably get killed online)

Plus I want to figure this stuff out during the beginning races before I move on to the cooler, more expensive cars. I\'m only on beginner still since I\'ve been doing all the licences and special races too

Anyway, On beginner races like the Vitz, Japanese Classic races, and European classic (i think its \'european\'), I have a car for each of those races but theyre\' extremely shitty compared to the other racers so I\'m getting killed. Do I need to upgrade my current cars (kind of sucks to spend money on a crap car) or wait till I get a better car/buy a different car to compete in those races?

just buy upgrade parts from the tuning shop. try to get away with spending as little as possible, just enough to get the car to be competative, then you should have enough in hand to win the events you want to enter.

even the shittiest cars can be tuned to the point where they can become an asset
