Metroid

Big win, my girlfriend found a stack of games destined for the reycle bin (!) downstairs and grabbed it. Double Dragon II and III, Bubble Bobble, TMNT, Battletoads, Metroid, SMB/Duck Hunt/Track Meet, SMB3, Top Gun and others.

A lot of those I didn\'t have. This is the first time I\'ve tried Metroid. I\'m loving it, got a few upgrades, died a few times... and then I looked at a walkthrough.... Is this game as enormous as it seems? Only thing that makes it seem manageable is that it\'s possible to beat it in just a couple hours.

It\'s good though. I was afraid it would suck like how I recently tried Kid Icarus and hated it.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT try to beat TMNT.  That game was my worst nightmare incarnate.

Fuck that game.

Haha, I\'ve played that one before. I know its sequels are way better, but damn..

Even if you got passed the underwater bomb diffusing part, it was just all downhill from there.  One of these days I\'m going to emulate it and use savestates to beat the damn thing just to see what the ending was like.

Not to sound like an elitist but metroid was almost ruined for me when I used the walkthroughs, just took too much out of the game when you knew where everything was.  That\'s just me though.

Yeah, I tried forever last night and couldn\'t get either of the Double Dragons to boot up, which sucked. It\'s always a pain with the NES, but I\'m not sure if those two carts aren\'t broken in some way... Still a pretty good haul. Battletoads and Metroid are worth it. Some of the others I already have, but not bad for finders-keepers.

Good suggestion about not using a walkthrough, I might play around a bit more without one. Just finding the morph ball power up was a pretty cool thing. You wouldn\'t expect to have to scroll left.

July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
