inFAMOUS 2: The Beast is Coming

Quote

Here at Sucker Punch we’re tired. We’re whipped. Game development is a sprint. You run as hard as you can, then keep running. The problem is the goal line sometimes move mid-race. When you set out to make a game you sort of have an idea of what it’ll ultimately be… but that’s not what it ends up being. You only know what you’ve made once it’s done. Like you guys we experience the game, the real game, for the first time at the end of the road. And it’s exciting. It’s crazy to be playing the game and forget that you made it because you’re busy ducking an RPG rocket. You know that feeling you get when you actually dodge in your seat? Get that all the time. Cole and his friends have stopped being polygons and actors and have become real people. And it’s this reality that makes today’s post cool. Now that we’re so, so close to being done we can finally really talk about the “Big Bad” that pushes the whole story forward...

IGN Infamous 2 Review : 9/10

Closing Comments
Everything in Infamous 2 is cleverly interconnected. If you neglect side quests, the city will be less safe (making the game more difficult) and you’ll have fewer skills to purchase. Neglecting to collect Blast Shards gives Cole less electricity to work with. Ignoring Dead Drops will keep the story darker and more nebulous. And refusing to work with UGC not only forces you to miss out on easy Trophies but also removes a welcome community feel to Infamous 2 that the original lacked.

Nothing exists in Infamous 2 just because, and that’s something developer Sucker Punch should be commended for. When combined with how well-executed just about everything in the game is, the overall package is one of PlayStation 3’s best and a must-play for fans of the first game. Don’t be deceived by niche subject matter like I was when the original Infamous first came out. This is a rock-solid third-person action game with an incredible story, great characters, meaty gameplay and – above all else – a string that effectively ties everything together.

20+ hours for one playthrough? hell yea

After getting dirt 3 I was kind of debating on holding off on infamous 2 if it was a 10 hour game. But that pretty much sealed getting it on release day

I used to hate collecting things in an open world game (gta4 was the worst), but it works really well with games like infamous and assassins creed. It\'s fun to just run around and explore the world..collectables make it more worthwhile

got it after work today

I was a little underwhelmed with the opening and the controls felt looser than I was expecting (i put the camera down to the slowest setting, which helped)

But then was hanging from the top a building, shot one guy from a weird angle that could only happen in infamous, and did the drop-down attack to knock the other guys to the ground and finish them off and remembered why the series kicks ass

cant wait to play through the rest..hopefully dirt 3 and assassins will keep me from going through it too quickly

Agreed on the controls, but settled in to them with a little playtime. Not that far along with the main quest as it\'s too easy to get sidetracked and goof around, a definite thumbs-up so far.

Yea it is,lol. Every time I come across a mugging or a group of people needing to be revived i figure \'what the hell..itll just take a second\'. Plus I dunno whether I want to go out of my way to get blast shards right away or just pick them up as I come across them..still, ill stop going towards an objective and get sidetracked getting one shard, then see another one and grab that...next thing you know I\'m going away from the objective

shards are pretty important though since they give you more power.  I don\'t go out of my way, but if I see one I don\'t skip it.  Ya never know if the one you see you\'ll ever freaking find again.  I played it last night for about 15 minutes.  Freaking great.

I\'m about 20% complete right now, and the action has totally ramped up. The power upgrades really make the side-quests that worthwhile, plus 305 shardes?! That alone forces you to explore.

Anyone purposely going down the "evil" path with Cole? I\'m opting for that with a second play-through with the increased difficulty.

I went good the first time as well on medium.  I played the last one two times through as well.  Having the two different sides makes it nice to play again.

And the UGC is pretty cool.

Any more thoughts on this game after more play-time?

Just finished the game on normal difficulty with the good karma ending, and have now started the bad karma journey on hard (which it is not very, at least so far).

Now I think this is a fantastic game on many levels, but it is not without it\'s mild shortcomings. The dead-drops added much needed story back-fill, but there could have had more, as I felt that the story was a little thin most of the time. Normally this doesn\'t bother me much, but I felt that the some of the side-quest and random encounters (abduction, hold-ups, etc.) were just too repetitive which really felt like filler particularity towards the end. I realize that the UGC was thrown in to add some variety, which at times it did, but I felt I was only obliged to play to get the associated trophy.

Again, great game, enough to make me want a second play-though, but a little more story to justify the playtime would play-time would have made it awesome.

Any rumours of any DLC?

I havent heard about any DLC, but I have a feeling no. The mission creator was their version of DLC so hopefully people will create some good missions in the future. I\'ve only done a couple of them so I dunno how good of missions theyll be. Theyll be fun when I\'m completely done with the game but i dont think they match the quality of a normal mission.

I\'m about 24% complete (according to the save menu at least. I dunno how far that is since that doesnt mean 24% of the storyline), but I\'m still loving it. I agree the little good/bad karma side missions are pretty repetitive, but other than that I havent really had any huge problems with the game.

I was skeptical of the new voice for cole, and the old cole was a lot better at narrating stuff, but I think his voice acting has been good for the regular cutscenes.
