Do you have DVD Problems???
« on: December 11, 2000, 04:54:37 AM »
There are several DVD-movies that European PS2 will not play. Console tries to read it approx. 1 min and then comes out with the error: Disk read error. Movies are also European (Region 2). The only movie that I have witnessed to fail is : What becomes of a Broken Hearted (Once were warriors 2) but my frien told that he has already faced two other movies which are erring. I think that the otherone was Gladiator??? BTW, both were Finnish versions. They all worked fine vith REAL DVD-player and computer also.

Have you faced similar problems and who\'s to blame??????

Even more finns? We\'re taking over :D

I rented a DVD movie again, and no probs with it. I\'ve had troubles with only 2 DVD\'s so far, with the aforementioned Gladiator (minor erring, 1 freeze) and with... err... it was some stupid movie my mom rented for herself and a friend. Though in this second movie\'s case I\'d think the deep scalpel induced scratches on the disc might\'ve affected it. People who rent films should take better care of them

Nope at the moment as Im playing through my DVDs Im taking note of which ones arent playing properly/have serious problems here it is:

start - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
DVD Playback tests :
UK [PAL] territory PS2, Region 2 discs, DVD drivers v1.20E

- Matrix (131mins, no issues / no issues*)
- Alien Resurrection (104mins, no issues)
- Armageddon (144mins, no issues*)
- Enemy of the State (127mins, audio sync issues*)
- Lost in Space (130mins, no issues*)
- Leon (106mins, no issues*)
- Ronin (121mins, disc unreadable after chpt21 +30secs)

Titles marked with a \'*\' were played from start to finish without returning to the menu or pausing the movie.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - end

The list is quite short at the moment, but I should be covering everything I get, I wonder if Sony has some form of public input to help resolve DVD issues the public discover. It would be great if the playback was issue free, as it stands the image quality is pretty good and the audio syncing seems to be a rare occurance (although judging from only 6 titles is a little fast) but to sit down and watch a film only to have it to fail 3/4 through the film is not really acceptable, hopefully Sony will fix such issues in coming versions of their DVD drivers, and quickly too.

PAL UK PS2/DVD

Only weird thing was watching \'Births Deaths and Marriages\' (great film, BTW).  The audio was well out of sync with the video on a lot of it.

I didn\'t have a DVD player to compare with, unfortunately :(

95% of movies will give a split second freeze.  It\'s called a layer change.  It\'s not "trouble".  It\'s "normal".
