You compaire a $60 game for a system that\'s been out nearly five years now to a $300 dollar hardware unit that\'s just been launched. Did even ONE neuron in your brain fire as you typed that post??? Good god.. that\'s like bashing Ford because their new model of Mustang isn\'t selling as fast as an in-dash CD player.

For someone who whines and bitches about Sony supporters falling into the hype, you sure seem to have let all those "Link Slays the PS2" articals go to your head.

While I love my PS2, you gotta admit it\'d probably be better for the industry if a different company took the number one spot (Just to keep all the companys pushing themselves and innovating more).  How ever, I wish the likely candidate was someone other than Microsoft. If they get control of this industry who knows what would happen.  I guess you could say the same about a big corporation like sony, but something about Billy just makes my skin crawl.  Anyways, I\'ll just wait and see and keep faith in the gaming industry in that it won\'t let one company take control for to long cause it\'s done a pretty good job so far.(You all gotta admit, the XBOX is sounding damn apealing.)

backward compatible. I think that this will shift millions of units on it\'s own merits. Sony do have their heads screwed on, how long have they
been in the electronics industry?. also everything they make r produce seems to be a success.
think back to the walkman and so on. I\'m not knocking the Xbox or GC or anyother machine. i just feel that there are people out there questioning sony\'s ability

There is a simple reason why Sony will not be beaten by microsoft in this console battle. Now I am not saying that they will blow microsoft into oblivion either. But the fact of the matter is that Sony is one of the most trusted names in home electronics if not the single most. Parents and non - polygon counting adults see Sony and they associate the name with hi - tech, hi - quality products. Also among the young demographic sony is the considered the coolest or most recognized name next to nike. Microsoft on the otherhand is well known for buggy software and monopolistic practices.
Will X - box be better than PS2 ? Maybe
Will X - box sell reasonably well ? Probably
Will X - box win this console war ? Not a chance
  I think the generation after this one is going to be tight though, especially if x- box proves to be a decent system.  But when I think of getting a new system here is how I look at it. Well I\'ll get the PS3 and then I\'ll see what the other guys have out and see if I want their system also. This is how alot of people see things, the Playstation brand name is a given with quality, value and great games. If Sony delivers in this generation, it will be very hard for anyone to call them a fluke, and they will become like a nintendo on steroids. They will chug along making blockbuster title after blockbuster title (3rd party supported as well) with very little worry from the outside compettition. Sony made video games cool and everyone remembers that. The older guys I work with whom all have playstation don\'t know squat about aliasing or polygon pushing, all they know is that syphon filter rules, or mgs is almost like playing a real live movie. So to me and so many others the choice was simple..PS2 and if i have some extra coin maybe i\'ll get a gamecube too... and if i have a little more extra coin i\'ll pick up an x-box.  Everyone should also keep in mind that Sony had learned alot from this launch and the PS3 launch should be far far better. Also if Sony sticks with the current architecture and just uses a more powerful chip in the next system, the developers will be talking about how simple the ps3 is to program for and how much they love it.
Damn I am rambling but oh well this is a forum. I also think this is the generation where Sony equals the playing field with nintendo on must have first party games. With Dark cloud, Syphon filter, Extermination, The Getaway, and GT3 all on the way Sony is forging a must have 1st party lineup that rivals nintendo, only this one is for all ages not just kiddies (not ripping those kiddie games cause im 27 and i love em too)

Oh bull****.  You think a shortage will make developers unhappy especially since Sony is meeting their projections of sales all over the world?  It\'ll have the opposite effect as in, EA will see the sell outs everywhere, say "oh my god, look how our games are selling systems and are generally being bought with each system sold" and progressively piss their pants at what geniuses they are.  Also, are you retarded?  What made you think that EA would NOT develop for other consoles?  What you think cuz they dump Sega, they are going to stick with Sony only for the rest of their companies existance?  Please, put down the crackpipe.  EA was going to develop for all the next gen consoles, cept say sega, and that is a fact.  To be gullible enough to fall into your own delusion of that particular third party\'s exclusitivity is just idiotic.

  Well, that depends on what you mean by "better".  From a technical standpoint Xbox is better than PS2 if that is what you meant.  There\'s no denying it, it\'s coming out next fall, of course it\'s better than the PS2!  Concede, dammit!

  Well if Microsoft can reasonably deliver the units they reasonably promise at launch (unlike a certain other company), then it\'s reasonable to believe that at a reasonable price Xbox will sell reasonablywell.

  I\'m surprised anyone else didn\'t recognize your extreme presumptousness.  The real answer is that no one knows.  However, industry analysts and developers alike (read: EA) agree that Xbox will be a success.  Although I don\'t take stock in the words of analysts, they are a more credible source than some Sony cronie from a web forum.  I\'ll do the wise thing and not comment either way on this.  However, if Microsoft keeps doing what they are doing now, then I really can\'t find a reason why they will "fail".  
  

Finally, hey MM, how in the hell could you say that Xbox won\'t beat PS2?  I was surprised to read something from someone as level-headed and unbiased as yourself.  Being the man that I am, I assumed that you were being facetious or sarcastic.  Please don\'t let me down like that, man.  If you were serious, I\'ve come to expect you to back up such a bold statement with some reasonable facts (read: not "PS2 will win because Sony sold 80 million PSX\'s!" --that doesn\'t mean anything).  I expect stuff like this from the others on the forum, but not yourself (you being a MOD and all).  Say it ain\'t so, MM, say it ain\'t so!

So, mm, you were serious?  I\'m taken aback!  I\'m speechless.  That was the most ignorant post I\'ve ever read.  My friend, have you taken an SRS survey to confirm that people trust Sony and Nintendo more than Microsoft?  Or do you believe it is fashionable to dislike Microsoft?  I\'m not accusing you, I\'m just questioning you.  Based on your logic, N64 should have outsold the PSX because in \'95 and \'96 I\'m sure that a lot more people trusted the name Nintendo when it came to videogames.  Wow! You actually tried to shove that lame argument in my face.  You in effect said, "PS2 will outsell Xbox...because it will!"  From my point of view, I\'m wondering if Sony could build enough PS2\'s to accomplish that goal.  

According to Sony\'s projections, they were supposed to ship 1.3 million PS2\'s at the end of this year and 3 million by march.  I don\'t think Sony even reached 800,000 units.  What happened to their 100,000 units a week?  The question is not whether they can sell 1.3 million consoles, they sure as hell can--believe me, but the question is can they SHIP those many?  There are just over two weeks left in this month and Sony isn\'t close to reaching their target, much less 3 million by March \'01!  See, you and the others on here tend to believe that 80 million people who have PSX\'s will just automatically buy PS2\'s.  That logic is flawed since there will be four viable consoles out on the market next year and PS2 will be one of the weakest.  I don\'t care if you played Wipeout on PSX and loved it and you bought FF on PSX and loved it, the fact is that those developers are all agnostic and if they can make money on four consoles they will.  The point is that PS2 will no longer have all the premier titles to itself...Xbox, and GC will also have some and *gasp* they will look better!  I have no doubt that Sony will woo a fraction of the PSX fanbase to the PS2, but they will not get half the ammount or the whole ammount.  

It\'s the basic pigeon-hole principle, my friend.  If you have four platforms on the market and let\'s say 80 million PSX users, by that principle Sony should sell no less than 20 million consoles.  It could be more, but then again it isn\'t so certain.  I\'m not even figuring in those who own two or more or all four platforms.  The fact is, people know Microsoft and they associate Microsoft with technology.  Half a billion dollars in advertising alone will convince millions that they must buy an Xbox.  You disappointed the hell out of me, mm.  I expected a lot more from an ADMIN.  But a forum is only as good as those in charge of it.  God forbids that this forum become the seething dung heap that is PS2Web.  However, my only conclusion is that you may be ANTI-MICROSOFT.  That\'s my only conclusion.  You aren\'t a fanboy, so I refrained from calling you that, but it seems as if you have a beef against them.  Maybe it\'s fashionable now to bash Microsoft but soon that fad will be over.  Some over here hate Microsoft for reasons they can\'t explain themselves.  It\'s always what some other guy says, never anything of their own merit.  However, I\'ll refrain from defending them since they have people that the PAY to do that.  I\'ll let the games and the marketing campaign handle that.  If $500 million dollars and a better version of MGS2 can\'t convert a fanboy, nothing will.
