LG Committed to OLEDs in 2015, Seven Models Coming This Year

Perfect Black

At the LG CES conference, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to OLED TVs in 2015, and is spending some $6 million to expand production.

LG’s goal for the next year through to 2016 is to ship 1 million units into homes, which it hopes to accomplish through the launch of seven different 4K OLEDs – of which – spans across 77-inch, 65-inch, and 55-inch models.

LG pitches its new line of OLEDs as “the first to embody all attributes,” including one with a “flexible” screen which can switch between curved and flat mode at the press of a button, along with “perfect black.”

As for general updates on 4K and its TV lineup, LG says it'll also be offering 34 models of 4K TVs overall, with some featuring their announced quantum dot technology, as well as webOS 2.0 and more powerful processors in their smart TVs. The latter will feature high-dynamic resolution streaming from Netflix.

Say hello to OLED TVs.  Its still expensive but as time goes by, they will go down in prices.  In 2013, a 55" 1080p OLED TV from LG cost $10,000.  In 2014, the newer model 55" 1080p OLED TV goes down in price to $4,000 and some electronic stores drop the price down to $3,500.

Now 2015, there are 7 different models from LG to see.  They are still expensive though.  Not sure what the cost will be though.  So, all 7 models are "4K" or UHD or 2160p.  Man that will make it even more expensive.  It would be nice if they have 1080p HDTV model for one of the smaller 55" screens to cut down cost.  Beside, there aren't many sources that support 4K or 2160p yet.

Have they solved the blue LED issue? That is, that the blue leds have a shorter life span compared to the rest?
OLEDs have a beautiful picture quality otherwise, Vita and my old Soonsoon Galaxy Nexus.

very good question.  honestly, i don't know.  but as with time, i think they improve the lifespan of all 3 oleds color.  Maybe at first 15,000 hrs, then 30,000 hrs, and possibly eventually 60,000 hours and beyond...

i guess that's the reason why lg add a 4th color oled, white subpixel oled to improve the longevity of other 3 primary colors.  white color is a mixture of red, green, and blue.  by adding white oled subpixel, they can decrease the intensity of red, green, and blue diodes which improve lifespan.
