My carpentry projects
« on: July 22, 2018, 08:50:36 AM »
I know I said a while ago that I'd post some of my projects that I've been working on (which my carpentry and little renovations to my condo have eaten up a lot of my time over the last year and a half). A bit of background: After I bought my condo, I decided I wanted to build as much of my furniture as possible. 1) Gave me a great excuse to get back into carpentry which I haven't done in many years. 2) It's cheaper than buying furniture. 3) Gave me something to be extremely proud of (and every girl I've brought here seems impressed by my skills)  :bounce:

First one I'm going to share is my bed. I started building this after I bought my condo. For a couple months I slept on a mattress on floor. Found plans for a platform bed and built it. Aside from my trailer, this was my first carpentry project. I planned to build a headboard but had to do shelving and some other things (I'll share those at a later date) first. After the weather got warmer this year, I finally did the headboard a year later. Then, realizing I needed more storage, decided to put legs on the bed, completely ruining the idea of my bed being a platform, lol. But I am really pleased with the results. Below is the evolution of the bed. I'd post in process photos but those are tucked away in archives and will take a while to find. So finished product photos is what you get :)

It's not a matter of smarts. It's finding plans for something you want to build and just getting your hands dirty. The bed frame I used plans. But the headboard I designed. Just sketched it in a notebook with measurements. The legs I had no plans. I just got the lumber and pulled out my miter saw. I only had the measurements of the height I needed for the rolling tubs.

I've actually been inspired to start sharing my build progress on Instagram. Too many people have been saying to me "oh I wish I was able to do that." I've been sharing a lot more to prove to people it's not as hard as it sounds. Maybe inspire some people to pull out a tool box.

you are still smart though to be able to do that.  carpentry is not my thing and very unlikely would i take carpentry class in school.  doesn't interest me and it looks intimidating and quite hard to me but i gotta respect your knowledge and skill to do that.  cool. B)
