Sony Celebrates 500 Million PlayStation Systems Sold With a Limited Edition PS4 Pro
Or to be exact, "more than 525.3 million."
Sony is celebrating the milestone of 500 million PlayStation Systems sold with a 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro.
Announced on the PlayStation Blog, this limited edition console arrives just as over 525.3 million PlayStation consoles are sold worldwide. As a "thank you" to the fans, Sony will be producing 50,000 units of this PS4 Pro.
The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro features "a translucent dark blue console shell and matching DualShock 4 wireless controller, PlayStation Camera, Vertical Stand and mono headset." The PS4 Pro itself packs a 2TB hard drive.
Each system will have a commemorative copper plate on the front with the serial number etched on it.
More interestingly, there will be "extra special" units that commemorate significant dates in PlayStation history, including "09995 (U.S. Launch Date of the original PlayStation – September 9th, 1995), 01115 (U.S. launch date of PS4 – November 15, 2013) and 01013 (U.S. launch date of PS VR – October 13, 2016)."
There is no word on if these "extra special" units will include anything more than the standard pack-ins of the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro.
For those who don't want to purchase the PS4 Pro, the 500 Million Limited Edition DualShock 4 will also be available for $64.99 USD / $74.99 CAD.
To continue the celebration, Sony will additionally be launching a 500 Million Limited Edition Gold Wireless Headset for $99.99 USD / $119.99 CAD, that will feature "the same dark blue translucent design with copper detailing."
The Limited Edition 500 Million PS4 pro will be available on retailer websites on August 24, 2018, for $499.99 USD / $639.99 CAD, with the DualShock 4 and Gold Wireless Headset becoming available in early September.
This continues the trend of Sony releasing special PS4 Pros, like the above Spider-Man PS4 and the God of War PS4 that released back in April.
