its official: half-life comes to PS-2
« on: December 20, 2000, 05:48:17 PM »
This months GAMEPRO magazine has a full length cover feature on the game for both PS2 and DC.  To avoid the whole console debate i will not get into which one is better but i will tell you that both DC and PS2 blow away the PC version and The designers of the game themselves will tell you which gamesystem outperforms the other with respect to this game.  It is a very enlightening article.  Halflife has won many awards for the PC and it will be awesome to have it coming to the PS2.

Yea, I read about it at IGN about 2 or so weeks ago. :)

I would like to point out that... you guys find Xbox getting a PS2 port with improved graphics and features not to be a big deal, whereas when PS2 gets a Dreamcast port with improved features and graphics...

...you get all excited?

Well most of the people here prefer PS2 instead of other consoles (which I\'m sure you already know).  So, when the news isn\'t pro-Sony these individuals play it off as nothing (Example: when I posted 2 articles from IGN that SSX and MADDEN 2001 were coming to GC), and when the news is pro-Sony these same people get all excited about it.  I\'m not saying that they are biased or anything, but since they prefer PS2 instead of other systems, it would be natural for them to not care for a PS2 to DC/GC/XBOX port and, instead, care for a DC/GC/XBOX to PS2 port.  If you understand this tell me.

Half-Life is the second best FPS I\'ve ever played (System Shock 2 being numero uno), hence, I am quite excited about this version. If it\'s got enough extras to make it a worthy purchase... if it\'s just the PC original (doubt it... :D) I\'ll just let it go by :)

Half-Life is not a DC to PS2 port with improved features, its a PC to PS2 port with improved features!  :D

And what improvements they are!  I read the article (only reason I picked it up to be honest, LONG LIVE EGM!!) and the poly counts on the chars alone is astounding.

Who knows what else is in store for the PS2 version?  Its gonna be sweet.

Half-Life with PS2 controller?
« Reply #6 on: December 21, 2000, 09:44:18 PM »
That\'d be great to have Halflife on PS2, but I don\'t think I\'d like it that much if it were controlled like Timesplitters. After playing GE and PD for like 5 years straight, changing to TS was ****en hard. I\'d really appreciate it if sony or someone released a controller that\'s just like an N64 controller, and I could play TS and Half-life with it.

Gotta get some sleep... I leave for San Fran at 5:45. Waking up is going to be impossible.

I wasn\'t asking any questions that time...

It\'s the same way on Dreamcast forums.  Tekken is "overrated", but tell \'em it\'s coming to DC and they\'ll poop themselves with joy.  That\'s how forums are.

I haven\'t encountered that yet in Nintendonation\'s Dreamcast forum, and Nintendose\'s Other Consoles forum.

"you guys"?  I\'m a long standing member of Blast City, a Sega forum.  Hell, I started there months before the Dreamcast even launched.  I also frequent Dreamcast.net.  I\'m a Sega fan at heart.  Sega is the number 1 developer.  The Saturn had my favorite launch of all time (Virtua Fighter, Daytona, Panzer Dragoon).  I prefer NFL2k1 to Madden 2001.  VF3tb is my favorite 3D fighter (Tekken is second).

Sega gamers are no better than Sony gamers, and vice versa.  When it comes right down to it, we are all gamers.  We all behave the same as we would in any forum.  The Sega machine doesn\'t make us any more hardcore, any more polite, or any more mature than other posters in other forums.  And believe me, the Sega forums do get rowdy once in awhile.  I\'ve defended the PS2 in there many times against extreme arguments of "no good games" or "jaggies" or "too little VRAM".  Can I get you proof?  No need to.  Just start posting in a Sega forum, or start reading the posts as a Sony fan, and you\'ll understand.  Go ask them their thoughts about Tekken or Madden.  Better yet, ask them their opinions of EA and Square.  It\'s just human nature.  A videogame machine doesn\'t attract certain personalities, nor does it improve personalities.
