Emotion Engine
« on: December 30, 2000, 09:19:45 PM »
This is to reply to the closed thread below...

Who was it that said the PS2 is superior to the DC because it has something called the Emotion Engine? Yeesh, now we\'re starting to debate which system has the cooler names. I could slap a bumper sticker on my car\'s engine tomorrow and call it the "Omnipotent Engine" and declare the PS2 sucks cause it doesn\'t have one. Gimme a break.

When your next-gen console has the same name as the last-gen, I don\'t think you should be arguing how wonderful the names are.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

I think the person in question could be koolKev or GameRaider. I\'m not accusing anyone though, and with my bum memory, I could be way off.

I absolutely agree with you, Ashford. Names are what other people hand you; there\'s no point worrying about them. Personally, I wouldn\'t mind the current crop of consoles to have names like "Lunchcube" or "Portbox" (actually, quite a few people here have taken a liking to these names... :)), as long as they appeal to me.

I apologize if I\'ve offended you, koolKev. I wasn\'t trying to accuse you or Gameraider, just that something slipped through my mouth. :)

I agree that a name of a chip doesn\'t make a console more powerful, but in this case the emotion engine is a very powerful chip and its more adcanced than anything in the DC. So names of random components don\'t make a console more poweful, but if the components are more powerful than it does.

I don\'t really care when someone says PS2 is more powerful than DC. This is fact and cannot be disputed. But, when someone says "PS2 kills the DC because it has the "Emotion Engine", it is absolutely retarded. So if DC named their\'s EE, does that make it superior? And anyway, Gamecube and X-Box have superior hardware with no silly names(at least I haven\'t heard any). Yet, people seem to forget that.

And why do these endless arguments always talk about who can do prettier graphics? One simple name to end these ridiculous debates: GAME BOY!!! \'Nuff said.

Ashford?  Don\'t you like the Name "Emotion Engine"?
Don\'t pronounce it! Do you really think that there can be someone who thinks that PS2 is better than DC only because it has a chip called "Emotion Engine"?
Nobody expects Wonderful games coming from the alone and rough power of a combination of chips...it\'s obvious!
Only Developer\'s cleverness can produce Great Games...and again...it\'s obvious!
Do you think People get excited about PS2 because of the name of a chip? Don\'t you think there can be someone who loves a console just for the games it produces?
Do you think the EE is like a SH-4 with a different name?
What\'s the problem? Call the SH-4 "The DreamChip" and You\'ll see better games on your DC

He has the power of both worlds
Girl: What power… beyond my expectations?
AND IT\'S PERSONAL
Demon: No… the legendary Sparda!?
Dante: You\'re right, but I\'m his son Dante!

Don\'t forget that the name "Emotion Engine" is derived of it\'s capability of creating natural moves and emotions. Just look at those The Bouncer :bounce: pics taken by our friend in Japan, THE BOUNCER (really, it\'s his nickname) in the Main Forum with topic title "I GOT THE BOUNCER GAME TODAY". NICE!!
BTW, did the Dreamcast team named their chip?

Damn I can\'t wait till I got my hands on that :bounce: game :D

I think that the Emotion Engine is a cooler name than Gekko, but that\'s just my opinion.

Um people? How many times have I heard someone say something like Ashford did?

"I could slap a bumper sticker on my car\'s engine tomorrow and call it the "Omnipotent Engine" and declare the PS2 sucks cause it doesn\'t have one. Gimme a break."

C\'mon now, I heard that **** a million times. For you people who arent informed, an Emotion Engine gives charcters in a game emotions.

The reason its called \'Emotion Engine\' is because there\'s an engine/chip in the PS2 which gives characters emotion. DUH!!

When someone dies in a game, you expect the characters to have a straight face, or an evil look of killing/sad to have that person die kinda look? You said it, sad to have \'em be dead. Thats what the Emotion Engine is.

Like someone said on this thread, why would a person buy a console just because of that. People, have real arguments or at least make sense when you post (like you tell me).

By the way, I said PS2 had an Emotion Engine.

GameRiader, I\'ve read your post over a few times, I hope your being sarcastic but there is nothing in there to tell me you are... The Emotion Engine does not genetate realistic emotions, all it does it churn out floating point calculations at a terrifying rate, the "emotions" are totaly the work of the animators, who supposedly now have the extra power they nead to create detailed facial expression previously imnpossible. In reality the Dreamcast has enough power to do that just as well as will all the other next gen consoles, so the emotion Engine is jsut a buzzword name for a big CPU.

The only thing you said on why PS2 is better than DC is because it has "Emotion Engine".

Really elaborate. No specs, no explanations, nothing. Way to argue.

Also, you think Gamecube and X-Box can\'t do everything the PS2 can and more? So, according to your logic, that would make their consoles superior. Screw the games.

Oh my goodness! Please someone tell me that he is joking. Wait don\'t tell me that. That would ruin everything. Hey Game_Raider did you know that the PS2 allows you to play stations too?
