SONY VS. MONSTER CABLE

Is there any difference between the monster cable compared to sony\'s s-video cable besides the price? what are the advantages of the monster cable if there are any?

I wouldn\'t think quality would be an issue, I bought the monster component video just because I looked at both and they seemed higher quality. I don\'t use s-video cables but I don\'t think its much of an issue with them.

There\'s a much better picture with it compared to Sony\'s A/V cables. I\'m one of the lucky few to be able to play any console on my PC monitor, thanks to JAMM. And the picture quality is better - thing is, it will show more jaggies than usual.

Monster Cables are 10x better than anything that a manufacturer will ship with its product. It is tight on the connection and gives better quality pictures but mostly better quality sound.

It\'s definatley not fair to compare standard sony A/V cables (composite) to monster cable\'s S-video. S-video will look insanely better wether it is monster cable or not. What I haven\'t seen yet and what monster cable does not tell you (in their own comparisons) is how much better their s-video is than a standard sony one.

Friend of mine who is in the dvd industry told me that I\'m kidding myself though and that unless your cables are longer than 30 feet the difference between a good quaility everyday cable and the monster ones are going to be too slight for even the most trained eye to pick up on.

This being said I did actually buy the monster cable s-video. Be it placebo effect or whatever I just wanted to be sure that I had the best I could get and they seemed to have the best construction.

I have a feeling that all I bought was the hype though. The fact that monster cable doesn\'t make comparisons to other s-video cables seems to say a lot to me. That little chart that shows how much better their s-video signal is over standard AV cables doesn\'t amount to crap, if sony had a comparison chart for their s-video it would probably look the same.

I\'m in the same pinch right now about the componet cables. I just got a hdtv and will probabaly end up getting the monster cables. I guess I\'m a sucker. I don\'t know that they are better, but I doubt they can be worse than anything elese out there.

Sprocket hit the nail right on the head.  Monster cable is a big waste of money.  Go to any home theater forum and they will laugh if you fall into the Monster Hype.  The only problem is there isn\'t much out their with the PS2 connector on it.  I agree it\'s better than 3 rca having S-Video, but without a scope you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between Sony\'s S-vid and Monster\'s S-vid..

I have bought my cables from Markertek and they make great cables.  Only problem is that not many companies are making these cables.

And as far as 10x better, well obviously Gohan is just saying that cause it\'s easier to type than 1.1x better at 10x the cost.

IT\'S ALL HYPE!!!!

I have mine on regular old S-Video cables and it looks great.  You are doing a cable run of 3 feet.  The amount of signal loss is so minimal it\'s non existent for a normal human being.

Untrue.  Like Video said, it\'s more like 1.1x better @ 10x the cost.  I myself haven\'t compared the Monster s-vid to the Sony cable, but I have compared the Monsters to the Interact Performance s-vid cable.  I\'d say the Monster\'s are 1.5x better.

Sad but true. :(

I have heard from many people that Monster cables provide better quality over everything else, and have better construction to last longer, and lessen interference.  I have also heard from several customers of the Interact cable screwing up their DVD playing capability.  I myself have gone with the Gamelink 300 and Lightwave 100 (S-Video and Optical cables from Monster).  They are currently in transit to my via UPS and I SHOULD (I\'d Better get them!:)) get them in a little while.  I\'d be happy to give my analysis once I hook them up.

Monster cables are good, but they are no where close to 10x\'s better than anything. They are more palcebo for the money. I bought a Monster S-Video cable and it made a difference but I get a crisp picture from standard S-Video cable from my sattelite box to my TV

The difference in quality IS NOT WORTH THE EXTRA $25

Finally some Sane people talking about this.  I get so tired of people talking about Monster Cables as if they have any clue what they are talking about.  You just need good solid cables, that\'s it.  Just don\'t have minimally shielded cables running all over your power strip and you will be fine.  I agree you should have nice cables, but Monster is the Bose of the cable world.

:).  This is exactly what I was thinking.  I wasn\'t going to upgrade to get a new set.  I figure I would get the best I could get right now, and know that I\'m getting the best out of my PS2.  Anything less would disgrace Transformers: The Movie, and T2 Ultimate Collection DVD\'s.  It\'s to bad that UPS didn\'t deliver them on time.  Looks like I\'m getting a refund on my shipping charges...

Hehe, I don\'t think you got my analogy.  Bose is also an overpriced Marketing gimmick of a speaker.  There are much better speaker systems out there for way less money than those dang cubes.  Cubes are great if you are space limited, but that\'s about it.  Uh oh, did I just redirect this thread?
