what does the ps2 do better than the others ?

well, since their is now a ton of hype in the hardcore gaming crowd i have a question. All the next gen systems have strengths and weaknesses. So what does the ps2 do better than x-box or game cube ? what does gamecube do better ?

GameCube is a texture and lighting monster. Gamecube can do 8 textures at once while xbox can do 4. Also Xbox and GameCube have texture compression of 6:1

Gamecube IMO is the better buy. Nintendo have done a really good job in designing the system.

And with Mario on the way, something special will happen.

I think PS2 can handle good AI with its emotion engine.

I\'m not sure about that but so I\'ve heard.

But I\'ll let some technical-peep speak for me...

  I think Xbox outclasses PS2 in AI.  As far as AI, physics, graphics, and everything else, I think it is pretty much only a battle between GameCube and XBox.

The PS2\'s main strength is releasing lots of games.

PS2 and X-box? I doubt that because PS2 doesn\'t have any huge advantages over the competition.

Try to explain to me with intelligent arguments,and stop to your childish foolishnesses! (I\'m sure your 12-14 years old...ops...Disregard This...there are so many cool teenagers...)

My arguments why PS2 will be strong in the competition:

1) Exclusive games like the other Two : PS2=GT3,ZOE,FFX,FFXI,Tekken 4,AC4,Ring of Red,Naughty Dog\'s secret titles. GC=Mario,Zelda,Metroid,...X-Box=OddWorld inhabitants\'s exclusive titles and many others...it\'s just a matter of taste! DC? If Sega will continue to produce games like Shenmue...well...we\'ll see really interesting things...

So,if you look at Great Games...you can choose indifferently among PS2,DC,GC and X-Box!
And if you look at the console which will produce more Games...well...PS2 in the first place and X-Box second...
...so...I\'ve proved PS2 will be strong in the competition!

2) If you aren\'t a "True Videogames-Lover",and you\'re looking at a "homely-Entertainment-System...well,your going to opt first for PS2 and Indrema,and then X-Box!
So ElAsesino...don\'t you think that PS2,Indrema L600 and X-Box have more chances to Win against the GC if you look at a console like a Homely-Entertainment-System?
Again,I\'ve proved that PS2 will be strong in the Competition!

3) If you\'ll see millions of expert and talented gamers to choose PS2 for its wonderful games...there\'s nothing compared to the dozens of millions who will buy PS2 because of it is in fashion!

4) With more than -one year and half\'s lead- over the X-Box...Sony will be always a step forward to Microsoft...

5) By the time X-Box and GC will be released,PS2 will cost around 199$-249$!!

I can\'t see one reason why PS2 won\'t be strong in this Competition!

However,ElAsesino,try to explain to everybody the reasons why PS2 is OUT from this Competition! ...Don\'t be BIAS

With a 1.2 Gigapixel fill rate, the Xbox is capable of drawing a 640x480 screen 3,900 times per second, or a 1920x1080 screen (HDTV) nearly 600 times per second. So, despite having a lower pixel fill rate than the Playstation 2, it is still far higher than necessary.
Texel Rate. The texel rate of a graphics processor refers to the number of textured pixels that the graphics chip can draw in a second. If you notice on the Xbox, it is capable of drawing twice as many textured pixels as it can screen pixels, which allows the Xbox to apply two textures to a polygon with virtually no loss in performance. In contrast, the Playstation 2 can only draw half as many textured pixels as it can screen pixels, which means that texturing does eat into performance. However, even if every polygon is textured, the Playstation 2 is still more than fast enough to handle a simple television screen.

PS2(2.4 Giga pixels per second) has twice as pixel-fill-rate as X-Box(1.2 Giga pixels per second)!!!

It has HUGE support from both developers and gamers, that\'s it\'s greatest advantage.

Therefore I agree that the battle for first and second is between the XBox and PS2, with the GC third.

Pixel Fillrate (no textures) -  Xbox=4G/sec,  PS2=2.4G/sec

Pixel Fillrate (1 texture)   -  Xbox=4G/sec,  PS2=1.2G/sec

Pixel Fillrate (2 textures)  -  Xbox=4G/sec,  PS2=0.6G/sec


The reason why some thought the XBox\'s fillrate was 1.2G/sec was because they assumed it will work just like current nVidia GPUs (i.e. NV10 and NV15).

The specs quoted 4.8G/sec, therefore knowing that the XBox handles 4 textures simultaneously, they divided that fillrate by 4, hence the figure of 1.2G/sec.

The XBox GPU doesn\'t work that way, it handles multiple textures differently, therefore it\'s fillrate IS as quoted for 0-4 textures. The fillrate will only go down AFTER 5 or more textures.

Now that the GPU has been downgraded slightly from 300Mhz down to 250Mhz, the Xbox\'s fillrate has dropped to 4G/sec.
