3. The Japanese have hated and will continue to hate MS and all consoles created by the United States. (Jaguar, TurboGrafx 16, 3DO, etc etc etc)
All the more reason for the XBox to succeed wouldn\'t you say?
There are many reasons why those consoles failed (including high costs and the fact that NONE of them were actually very good compared to other consoles!).
I\'m amazed sometimes at all those who seem to want the Xbox to fail. For the first time we have a western based console with a chance of breaking apart the Japanese dominance of the console market, yet instead of supporting it, you\'re against it!
Sure many hate MS (even if they don\'t know why), but that is not a good reason to be against the XBox. Think about it, if the XBox succeeds (and I\'m sure it will), then surely other western companies will consider entering the console market with GOOD machines also?
IMO, the success of the XBox will open the way for others to follow, and will rid many of the idea that a console MUST be Japanese to be great. These are a few of many reasons why I hope it succeeds (the PS2\'s success is virtually guarenteed).
So who knows what will follow, perhaps when XBox2 is due for release, a US company may be preparing to release ther first XBox2/PS3 beating console.

The Reverend\'s sentiments exactly. However, I think hatred for Microsoft has a lot to do with this also. Many in here don\'t want Xbox to succeed because it\'s from Microsoft. Why? Well, somehow it became cool to hate Microsoft and Bill Gates. I guess some high-profile individual made it publicly known that he hated Gates and some people thought he was cool and so they thought it was cool to hate Gates. It created a snowball effect down until even today. Most Americans are patriotic, I would say (however, I\'m not one of those). Those who know the history of videogames will know that the $11 billion a year phenomenon was born in the United States (at MIT to be exact). Thinking about that, don\'t you think that a US console SHOULD be dominating the market right now? It\'s kind of ironic if you think about it, really. After 3DO it seemed that the Americans just gave up and the majority of them focused on the PC, the mother of videogames.
The Xbox is almost symbolic in a sense. It\'s a child of the PC, and the PC is an American invetion. Game consoles are also an American invention, so isn\'t it fitting that the "child" of PC technology represents America\'s latest entry into the console market? Forget Bill Gates, forget that it\'s from Microsoft for a minute. Xbox is symbolic of the "Phoenix" rising from the ashes. Xbox represents the New American Console. All the mistakes of the past have been learned from. ****y marketing, lack of support, and lack of quality hardware has all been learned from, and Xbox represents that. Xbox is a Renaissance, if you will. For godsakes, games were born on US soil, the console was born on US soil, so why shouldn\'t a US console be the industry leader? The bold-face truth is that Microsoft are sadly the only ones QUALIFIED to launch an American console if you think about it. In fact, I challenge any one of you to name ONE US company that is qualified to launch a game console. Go ahead...I\'m waiting. I thought so. NO other American company has the market presence of Microsoft. NO other American company has the business AND software expertise of Microsoft. Hey, they may play dirty, but there isn\'t a such thing as love in the business world. The corporate world is dog-eat-dog. It\'s trample or be trampled. Survival of the fittest. If you have to steal to win, goddammit then you steal! Not one of the three Japanese console manufacturers want to play nice and fair. They all want the biggest piece of the pie and don\'t you ever forget it. If Sony, Sega, or Nintendo could, they would lie, cheat, and steal just to get that large piece. Don\'t let yourself be fooled people, business is a dirty game. That\'s gospel from the Reverend.
It\'s fine if the Japanese gamers HATE Microsoft, but it\'s mind-boggling why American gamers do. Does it matter if Microsoft is the one coming out with the Xbox? What other software company is qualified to release a GAME machine? Linux? No. They don\'t know games. Sun? Hell no! They don\'t know games. Microsoft knows games and have been making great ones for years. They happened to hear the complaints of numerous developers and met with them. They wrote down notes and welcomed feedback from many-a-developer on what they want in a console...hell, they even went to hardcore gamers and got feedback. They decided to do something about it and Xbox is the result. They are survivors in the evolution of the corporate system and have proven themselves worthy of releasing a game console. Frankly, America couldn\'t ask for a better qualified candidate. I\'m no huge fan of the Microsoft Corporation, but I am humble enough to realize that evolution has chosen them to release a game console. The Reverend is confident that Xbox will help games evolve into a more respectable form of entertainment. I\'m sick of people looking at me weird when I say I love to play games. I want the same reaction as when I say, "I love to watch movies." Xbox is the console that will help games evolve into a respectable form of entertainment. So what if you hate Microsoft? Is that really a legit reason not to buy an American console? Are your reasons legitamate to begin with? Those are some questions that some here should ponder on.
