Acclaim has released the first solid details of it’s port of the Dreamcast classic Crazy Taxi. Your PS2 will be throbbing with yellow cabs and loud punk music at the end of April
After much rumour and speculation, Acclaim has confirmed that Crazy Taxi will release for PS2 in Europe at the end of April. The conversion is being handled by Acclaim’s Cheltenham studio, which warmed its coding fingers with the PS2 racing game RC Revenge Pro.
The port is based on the code from the arcade game, but the extra modes that made the DC version such a laugh will also be included. For the uninitiated, the Crazy Box mode on the DC game asked you to knock down bowling pins whilst power-sliding sideways, and drive your taxi off the end of a ski-ramp.
As the game is technically a conversion only, Acclaim isn’t allowed to add in any extra game modes over the DC version. The analogue acceleration and breaking controls will be handled digitally by the PS2’s pad, and the graphics will be enhanced.
Acclaim is also set to publish 18 Wheeler and Zombie Revenge under the terms of its agreement with Sega. The conversion of 18 Wheeler will be handled by the Cheltenham team, while the responsibility for Zombie Revenge lies with Acclaim\'s Teeside studio. Both games are slated for release at the end of June.
